i have had mine in 4 places.

1. a red top right behind passenger seat mounted at the lowest part of the frame rail to keep COG low. this worked well. it also had a skid plate underneath it.

2. a small batt right in front of the pass seat to make it accesseible to chargers.
but i found out that those small batteries really arent reliable in the long run with winching to be done.

3. same small batt underneath pass seat. this was super clean and it was out of the way, however, you had to take the pass seat out to get to the batt. PITA!

4. the final resting place, redtop, in the far back. easily removable and acsesible for charging.

Behind the driver or passenger seat as low as possible.

Far back, top of battery even with top of frame rail. Did it for weight distribution, and still 500# heavier in the front.

Mounted directly above the rear axle. Mine is on top of the rails. And yes, it tends to tip over.
