Nolen, why not just build a full tube chassis? Or is that step 7.0?

Think about it.....what do you spend most of your time on? It is not the chassis, it is the engine, firewall, wiring and the suspension.

I have all that. I only have 5' of frame left and a firewall.

Folks haven't had a good chance to laugh at me lately, so I've got a suggestion:

I think you should incoporate QR rear fenders into the design. Why not? You're already designing the back half from scratch. What would a couple QR brackets and fenders add to the process? You will really appreciate them the day you have to drive at speed during or just after a sudden downpour with the kids in the back. Make them half steel (or alum?) and half rubber mud flap.

If you're really intent on making a hardcore family hauler, the kids will need more protection from the elements than you do alone.

No chance. It is wide enough in the ass as it is and something sticking out in the back is not going to happen. Even if I did something like that, it would just get tore to crap.

Don't misunderstand, the rig is going to be capable of hauling 4, but 90% of the time it will haul one and a dog as before.

As for the elements, I generally wheel with the family pretty close to camp. I learned a LONG time ago when I was a hardcore hunter, if you want people to enjoy the outdoors, don't punish them while they are being introduced.

Thanks for the ideas, but this is a tube chassis that just happens to have 4 seats, not a Family Hauler with a tube chassis..........make sense?

Makes perfect sense to me. I already did a comp rig that was vaguely 'wheelable, and hated it, so now I have a play rig that's sorta competitive. (be better if I could drive)

No the camera is not broke... We are at a slow point until the seats come in, but will be starting on the front and the fenders tomarrow along with the fuel cell mount and CO2 bottle.

The shock hoops and the floor bracing are pending the seats as well as the X behind the front seats. Easy stuff is done just need to make everything fit inside..

I AM WAITING ON NOLEN......... and his booster seat.

Listen knucklehead, you want to write a few articles for free, feel free to step up and do it.......damn, I am catching it good for my Trails presence from you Cali boys

I would understand it if I had a shop or a business that I was "pimping" (as I have been blamed for), but I am just a simple drug salesman with a habit of trearing my crap apart every 18 months

Back to the subject at hand, I will get it back from Jason in July and then I have to do the floors and side panels. Tedous work.

I am shooting for August to be on the trail again.

There was that one issue (May/June 2005 ?) where you were in like 3 articles. I'd say that borders on excessive. But that's just me.

Painted sheet metal on the outside and aluminum on the inside.

Ross, point taken. Please start a IH8NOLEN thread that will roll on its own outside of this one please. I am sure it will get PLENTY of posts.

I would like to use this one to showcase Jason's excellent work on my rig.

I appreciate it.
