looking good glen.. nice build thread you got going here..

one question though,, If the spring perches on the gm dana 60 are 32" wide and your leaf spring width is 27" how did you guys come up with 4.5 inches to trim off and not 5 inches?

thanks

the spring perch on the pass side of the 60 is fixed into the centersection casting ........ the measurment from the pass side "c" to the center of the pass side perch has to match the measurment of the drivers side "c" to the center of the drivers side perch........in order to maintain the 27" measurment between the spring perches, the magic number to be removed from the long side(drivers side) is 4.5 inches.......keep in mind the axle is only being trimmed on one side , that is why there is a half inch measurment ........the other half inch is on the untrimmed side .

whew....did i overcomplicate that or what?

hope that helps

That works. Glen's explanation wasn't making any sense to me.

Cruiser is looking good. You should really put mogs under this thing though that way you can sell my the one ton stuff. I'm not used to how tippy my cruiser is now that its sprung over.

I've got my 37's on 15x8 2" backspace. I am just used to being much lower. I'm done with school in a week and a half. I'll have to come by and see what you've got done and show you what's changed on my cruiser.

well , clint and i got busy today.........

the goal was to remove old rear axle and 55 springs.....install 60 series rear springs,14 bolt and disc brakes.

i started off smacking my left elbow 4x's in the same spot in the first 15 min..... after that it went pretty smooth , except for the pounding in my elbow for the next 8 hours

we backed it in my folks garage and let all the air out of my sx's to get it in

to put the 60 springs in i had to modify the stock spring pins.....i popped the pin out of the 2 holed plate and drilled it out to fit a 4.5 inch 5/8 bolt also i used a thin shoulder 60 series 5/8 hole bushing from sor...i will put a part number in for the archives later.
the inside hole in the stock spring hanger had to be drilled to 5/8 as well.....

the part # for the bushings is.......
289-60-C ............when flipping 60 series spring for wheelbase and using these bushings, they fit my fj40 spring hangers perfectly.

hey david wazup

nice springs eh?

the best we could tell , the wheelbase is now about 102" that is 4 more than with the 55 springs
i used the rear hole on the spring perches as well....i only expected 3 more inches . so that extra inch was a bonus there will be some more trimming of the rear fenders.

thanks again david ....your the man

Glenn, great write up and nice work on the axles. I am stoked for you.
With these longer springs do you plan to run an even longer shackle outback, or relocate the hanger? Seems the rig will sit lower because of more angle in the shackle, but I am guessing.
Will you put in the t-case before setting the pinion angle?

looks great!
Dustin

hey dustin
the spring hanger was already flipped for the 55 springs....the overall length of 60 springs are the same as 55's...the center bolt is offset
the spring perches won't be welded until the d300 goes in...they are barely tacked for now.
well i'm back at it ...i will post more pics in a few hours

hi to becky and indi
