I've been slacking on keeping this build updated. Not that I've done a bunch of work but poking right along.

It's been a minute since I worked on this hunk of metal... Summer activities and work have engulfed all of my time. I got back in the groove after riding with a buddy who bought a new to him turn key rig. Need to finish this thing by New Years...

Way over due steering arm bracing mockup. I'm thinking I should likely put at least one vertical support on the bottom steering arm. Thoughts?

Extra bracing never hurts as long as it clears with no interference issues. Progress looks great!

On another note, how wide is that FJC grille? I've been kicking around doing that on mine.

It's 47-3/4" at the widest point.

I really wanted to use an original FJ metal grill and just extend it some but I couldn't find one for a reasonable price. Had to hack it up some to fit.

Procrastinating making a radiator mount. The Radiator is a Ron Davis with his shroud and a Spal fan. It's pretty small since I had to stay within my front inside frame rails but it's a double pass. 22"x19" I believe is the size. There is only about 3/8" behind the fan motor to the motor pulleys which will make getting belts on/off interesting...... One of the many issues building a custom rig though.. It has to be slide out/in and lifted out from the passenger side very carefully since it's so deep.

This top brace will get some dimple dies in it

Since it's a royal PITA to get in/out the mounts all have to be removable so it's all open to slide it out. Excuse the crappy picture...

Well again my updates have been about as timely as working on this hunk of steel. Once again, spring/summer time weather distracted me from getting this project done. Did most of this a while ago just hadn't posted. Fully welded axles up with trusses.

Measured about 20 times before cutting. Trying to tie the rear tube frame into the cage. Won't be able to weld this in until I pull the cab off to get painted.

First time really welding fenders together and really don't like body work that much at all. Narrowed the hood around 2" so sliding in the fenders made them about 3/4" too short. A little cut and splice and now they are even and halfway line up.

Some dash work

Resi Mount. Not the ideal location. it's as high as it can go without having to cut another hole in the hood.

Sweet build. nice fab work. Seems fun in what looks like a fairly limited space... I know the feeling.

It looks like you have a few rivnuts here and there. Where did you get them and what tool do you use? Worth it?

Yea, if you are referring to the basement converted into a "shop" yea it's not the best but it gets the job done. Sucks when I grew up with multiple shops and most friends what wheel have shops with lifts. It makes you appreciate a lift, 12' ceilings, and about 3x's the space.. As soon as I get a right of way land issue resolved I will be building a 40x60 shop or I find more land and a house somewhere.

Yea, I was telling a friend about my rivnuts, that is probably the coolest tool I've purchased I feel like. Saves so much time vs tapping. On my moto sprinter van build I probably used 50+ 1/4-20s and never had an issue. I purchased the 1442 tool from Amazon. I'm sure there are better ones out there but I just got that one to try it mainly on my dash and interior parts to see how it was. Some reviews say the threaded stud breaks but I'm pretty sure those people don't know what they are doing... I did get a bunch of SS rivnuts and SS bolts, the rivnuts are a touch harder to pull back/expand and sometimes can get misaligned. I'd recommend just sticking to the regular ones. I wouldn't put a lot of weight off them if I could help it but for any interior stuff, accessories, small brackets and stuff into less than 1/8" metal they are awesome.

These 3 panels are attached via them into 3/4" square tubing.
