I agree with Kevin, make it flush with the top of the tailgate. Also, I think it would look really clean to bob about 6" out of the rear behind the wheelwells.

But the real question is..... Will it be ready for New Years???

those are super quick and dirty sawzall cuts. once the cage is complete i'll make the final cuts and cap off everything

goal is to put a lexan windshield back in it. been looking at different options

New Years was my goal, but it isn't going to happen. i'll just be wheeling my beer can again

long overdue update on this pile:

cage work came to a standstill a few months back and the truck ended up sitting in a field for a while. finally brought it back home, with rusty tubes and some friendly black widows. bought myself a bender and am finishing the cage work myself. making some progress lately, so i thought i'd throw up a few pics. goal is New Years again, really hoping i can pull it off... still a long ways to go.

front seat mounts almost done:

A-pillar gussets with factory dash tube:

JD2 Model 32 with SWAG ram mount:

edit: sorry for the shit pictures, i'll try and take some better ones in the daylight

throwing more tube at it:

trying to decide how to finish the B-pillar bracing. the upper tubes will need to have pretty significant bends in them for headroom... which is not ideal, but it is what it is. right now i'm leaning between these two options:

(basically a giant saddle gusset)

what say you, PBB?

thanks, fellas

good seeing you too, Garrett. we'll have to plan trip soon

a little update on the ol' Party Wagon... rental status on the Rubicon trip resulted in some broken shit: hub gear, chromo 27-spline inner, and e-locker rear diff. been slowly chipping away at the repairs and doing some upgrades at the same time. front axle got new 30-spliners, chromo hub gears, IFS hubs, and Tundra brakes. turns out steelies don't fit without spacers, so new wheels were added to the list

rear diff was a surprise, still not sure what to do there... will update when i figure that out

I know that I am still in progress but https://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyot...5-v7-diff.html another couple weeks and I should have some more of the kinks worked out

you should build a girdle also, help find out if it is actually something that will help or not

edit: what brand 27 spline shaft did you break?

i like the girdle idea, i'm just not sure how much more time and effort i want to put into this axle. plan is to replace it as soon as funds allow. in the meantime, it's just getting another gear set and a rebuild

started on half doors finally and got them cut down this weekend. obviously still need to plate them in, but i'm liking the look so far. also mounted up some fresh fenders and a #bro bar i got for super cheap... jury is still out on that thing
