Rear End Noise

Every now and then when I pull off from a stop I get a high pitched "ping" noise from my truck's rear end. Anyone else ever experienced this? It doesn't happen all the time, totally random.

Thanks! I rolled under the truck the other day and tried to see if there was any play in the drive shaft or pinion but everything felt normal, and I haven't had any vibrations. I guess there's one funky needle in there somewhere.

Just because they art tight, does not mean they are good. Have you tried lubing them?

Had a buddy of mine that had a clicking noise coming from the rear u-joint, crawled under it, everything was tight. Had him back up and go forwards with me under it and it was coming from that area. Put one in, no more noise.

The u joints in there now don't have grease fittings. I picked up two new ones yesterday and made sure that they had grease fittings before leaving the store.
