O.B.A. using stock A/C w/ pics

I just completed my O.B.A. yesterday. I got a lot of info from the PBB but found very few pics. So I thought I would post my creation for those who would like to convert their stock Toyota A/C to O.B.A.

In the first pic the parts are (from right to left)- 1/2 male barb, 1/2 coupler, 1/2 to 1/4 reducer, 1/4 hex nipple, mini coalescing filter, 1/4 hex nipple, 1/4 check valve, 1/4 hex nipple, Furnas pressure switch (cut in 95 psi, cut out 125 psi) 135 psi pop valve ( under side), 90 degree elbow, 1/4 coupler.

The second pic 1 inch 1/4 connector, 1/4 elbow, 1/4 coupler, 1/4 guage.

The parts installed. (The hose coming of the pressure switch was used for testing. I ran the line along the frame where it attaches to the tank under the bed of the truck).

I used is 2 1/2 gal old compressor tank. It had three 1/4 ports.

Parts used 1/4 drain valve, 1/4 elbow, Quick connect, In the front is 1/2 to 1/4 reducer, 1/4 tee, 2 male Quick connects.

All of the parts were purchased from the Air Tool Store in Sacramento, Ca except for the 3/8 air compressor hose.

How well dose your stock a/c pump work? mine is ok but I dont think its enough air to use air tools Im going with a york next

I would post a copy of the reciept, but I don't have a scanner. It all cost me about $200.00. The air tool store was alittle pricey but I found every thing in one place. The price you pay for convenience.

looks good.you did a good job.i had a oiler on mine for a little but stoped using it now i just oil it evry once in a while.i do not remember seeing a moistuer seperater on it you need to have one so you don't get oil in the tank and in the tires.it makes for slipery beeds and and thats not a good thing.

FYI I got the OBA kit from www.frontrangeoffroadfab.com and it was only 160.00 and it bolted right on in about 10 minutes. you get everything you pictured and also get an air manifold with about 8 ports and it puts out enough air to run some air tools. mine saved my ass on upper heldo when my center pin broke and i needed my air cut off saw to modify a bolt.

Ditto, in fact, me thinks my impact (CH ) actually hits harder when I'm running it off my stock A/C OBA set up than it does off my garage compressor. Of course I do run the pressure a little higher on my OBA.

So with this kit for $160 you literally got everything needed? I've been toying with the idea of using my factory compressor for OBA. That would make it worth every penny in my book,being able to get EVERTHING in one kit.

I just can't get the thought out of my head of recharging the AC for the summer time.

Word of warning, I had a water/oil separator on mine just like that except with the metal bowl made by the same company. The air coming out of the compressor was so hot it melted insides. I have no idea if it will do the same to the poly bowl. These units are only rated for 250 degrees. Keep an eye on it. Nice work!!!!!

Looks good, Bricks1. Very similar to my setup.
Now you need to plumb the quick-discos to more
convenient locations, like front and rear bumper.

yes, absolutely everything including clamps and he even gives you a coiled airhose with an air chuck, all the fittings and plugs for the open holes in the manifold

This is a great write up. Could you include what needs to be done to the AC pump for controling it. Also what kind of hose and parts are needed to hook up to the pump?

For Project Blu (didn't oringally have AC and is a 85 truck), we got a AC switch from the wrecking yard and plug it into the factory harness. Then we had to jumper one wire behind the dash since the "AC contorl" was not there and then you just plug the AC compressor into the factory harness under the hood. your you could just wiring in a 12V+ fused toggle switch to the magnetic clutch.

As for adapting the AC Pump for barb fittings, I just weld a steel fitting to the AC Pump hose adapter plate/bracket, thus turning it into say 3/8 npt and then I just screw in barb fittings and your set to go.

I use Parker Push Lock hose. The hose has this printed on it: PARKER PUSH-LOK 801-6 WP 1.7 MPa (250 PSI) - 10mm (3/8) X 1F 83QO2. The cost on it is around $1.14/ft thru my work so retail its probably a bit more since they buy it in bulk from a hose supplier. Basically its industrial hose and Pete and I have had NO problems with it, so thats why I'm using it.
