22 re alternator help

Hey I have a 22re buggy on a tube frame. My problem is the alternator is not charging... I'm trying to set it up on a Toyota one wire design. I have my sensor wire ran to my cable stud on top or the alt, and a hot wire from my key to the back of the alt. The wire that is for ignition, the one for a light or bolt meter has nothing. Still running my battery dead. I've tried two tried and trusted alternators thanks

Ive only ever ran toyota alternators wired to a factory harness, but I know with gm 3 wire alternators that the 3rd wire has to be ran through a dummy light in order for them to work. You said yours goes to nothing. Try that.

I never thought about the light, please explain the exciter circuit. I have a ignition wire ran to the ignition plug on the back of the alternator

Here is the wiring diagram if you don't have it. I never tried to run without the charge fuse. I think that's what you are trying to do, right?

IF I recall
The charge light comes on when you hit the key to ignition when you hit the starter button that pulls power through the ic and turns it on somehow or another been a long time since I read the specs.
Ic needs to see a drain of power.

Check my Timber Tiger build in Gen 4x4. I believe I documented how I dealt with this same issue in my crawler.
