81 2wd shortbed the back is brought in to the width of the frame rails bobbed about 9 inches and the tail gate still opens.

Search for Toy2, he also did a REAL nice dovetail.

I didn't have a bed to start with so I made my own.

Here's mine- when I had a bed. Bobbed 12 inches, narrowed 8 inches per side, tailgate sectioned.

had a question
on the tailgate, did you have to angle the bed back out after the dovetail for the taiklgate to work?
I'm guessing you bobed the bed, tacked it on, then cut out the dovetail section, pulled it in, then bent out the ends to have stright tailgate area?

I have mine dovetail....but I bobbed the bed 13" first.

Here I was working on the tailgate. I cut the ends off, drilled out the spot welds on the framing and welding the frame/housing back on the ends.

I say it came out okay.

I fell asleep searching, & had no idea how I missed the zillon posts on this subject

lots of pics, not a ton of "HOW TOO" buy toy2 showed a good way with the truck he WON I liked the laser level idea, si I went to EBAY & bought one, had 1 I didn't like too much so I gave it to a buddy. I have a perfect bed, it's 4sale, but if it don't sell here in a few weeks I'll dove it.
