4Runner bed bob - I wanna go SHORT

Guys, I am really looking to bob my 4runner now, but I wanna go short. I pretty much want to cut right at the end of the rear inner fender well, or maybe even shorter. The Essential Off Road rear 3 link suspension lets me get 90* or better departure angle out of this, so I want to go REAL short here

Does anyone have any pics or suggestions on how to work the sheetmetal to get it to look decent when I am done? I really want a more rounded and finished look than just chopping it flat and plating it.

One suggestion a buddy had was to take the top rear corner's (4 of them) and use those for tops and bottoms to graft together to get a nice finished look for the end. Taillights will have to go - the rear corners won't be tall enough to keep them.

So any suggestions or pictures would be appreciated.

Locktup's rig is clean and about as short as you can go with the sheetmetal (right behind the seat).

Great - and I just sent my last truck bed to the scrapyard

I was kinda thinking grafting on the truck corners would give me more ability to trim up and have it look decent.

...You're talking about basically bobbing it, and then cutting off everything below the fenderline, right? Using the top rear corners of the current 'bed' to flow into some kind of tailgate?

If you can pull it off, I think it'd look pretty clean that way.

Exo or flatbed or anything?

Correct, basically only be a few inches longer than the rearmost flat part of the fender lip... again - the 3 link rear lets me get *real* short.

i just took a gander under one at the neighbors, now that i checked it out i think you can keep your runner tailgate and rear body work(you still cant trim it up like a truck). but since you can chop your frame off and box it in wherever you wnat the tailgate can clear it(youve got no shackles like you said)..........check it out, i might be wrong, ive had a couple beers....

Only thing, the side "pockets" you can ditch, but the bottom of the gate has to stay, and that'd look

I have a new tailgate that I want to shoerten on the bottom and be able to run a bumper underneath. I need to mod the hinges somehow. Also, as it sits here, the tire rubbs on the sheetmetal to the rear of the tire right below the taillights. Actually it rubs all around the fender but finishing the body work and cutting is next on the list.

And yes, I know I need to redo the mud flaps, I got a little anxious and didnt use the quick releases I spent 20 minutes building, what an ass I am. I was going to do the truck tailgate but I have a bobbed top I built and I dont like getting rained on so I want to be able to run a rear window in the winter.
