Bringing modified vehicles to HI

So can someone give me the scoop on bringing in modified vehicles to the state? My parents have lived there for the past 6ish years, I've been offered a job there; wife and I are considering making the move.

I got a 2014 F250, 10 inch kelderman lift kit (bags all 4 corners, adjustable height), 40X15.5 tires, no mud flaps or fender flares, full heim joint steering, hydro-assist. How screwed am I bringing this truck in? I really DO NOT want to get rid of this truck and I'm willing to get pretty crazy to either avoid inspection or get it passed. All emissions equipment is intact currently. All I'm finding online is bumper height and such which I can pass currently.

Isn't Hawaii where the giant useless bro truck craze started?

Your truck doesn't look like it would stand out all that much compared to most lifted SD's I see rolling around. I bet you would be alright as long as you got the bumper height law covered.

The real question is steering modifications. Most SD guys just have worn out steering components and live with it driving like a death trap. Everything else can be made to pass inspection but the steering modifications are more or less non reversible.

If it's not specifically listed in the inspection book, I would not worry about it. Have it inspected and see what they say. Worst case, buy yourself an inspection sticker.

So I struggled to find really anything online. I called some of my people in Kona, they called some people, next thing you know I'm on the phone with the guy at the DMV in Kona that does the inspections of the inspectors (if that makes sense)... Guy was super nice, car guy. I explained all my modifications. He guided me through.

Ive had heims on the steering and passed the reconstruction inspection. You mostly need fender flares, mud flaps, bumper and headlight height, and an alignment sheet less than 30 days old. Some guys weld on bumper extensions to get bumper height.

Just make sure you have mud flaps and that your tires don’t stick out past the fenders. Diesel is not part of the gas cap in Hawaii so it’s about $4.65 a gallon.

Really how does that work? Especially since inspectors take pictures of your vehicle from various angles and then send them in.

You need 31ís on dubs to pass inspection.

In all seriousness I think thereís a maximum tire height requirement. Thatís why everybody runs the goofy small tires.
