Ohhhhh, that guy! I thought it was due to him, but I wasn't sure. I never had the "pleasure" of meeting him, but things seem to be better now that he's been shipped out.

Just a heads up.
It now looks like Greensticker only Jeeps/Buggies are not allowed on MET

ATV,UTV, Snowmobile, and street legal 4WD are ok

They are now refferencing the California Vehicle Code and any OHV over 1000cc is prohibited.

MET was great today, it snowed all day and had white out conditions for about a hour around 5pm. I made it to Brown Rock, pushing powder up to my grill for a mile before turning around.

Down lower today it was an absolute MESS. It was an idiot convention of unprepared people and people in 2 wheel drives driving where they should not be.

Saw literally three vehicles sliding sideways down the road towards me, 4 people that parked in the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. people in 2wd driving WAY too fast for conditions (One who I had to pull out of ditch after he lost it sideways) and I even got asked the $1,000 question, AFTER they passed the signs: "Does this road go to Kirkwood?"

Super icy today, where even pulling off MET onto sly park people were spinning tires and going nowhere, creating a huge back up.

Yes finally have some decent snow on MET.
I went up Sunday morning to about a mile before Brown Rock.

Road is very slick from the dam to just past Blue Gouge Rd. Literaly a sheet of ice depending on the time of day. Lots of traffic down lower with people out playing in the snow. Defined tracks (ruts)start about North South road, just past Alder Creek road it is a single lane and very few places to turn around and difficult to get out on the existing track. Above 6500 feet the track is close to 3 feet deep in places.

By Monday the ruts are deep enough and hardened enough that difficult to get out. Becomes an issue with oncoming traffic is all. Hahaha

Turning around quite challenging if you're smaller and better have winch or buddy plus tow points. Just sayin.

Sides are deep with that crust top that just invites you in.

Has anyone gotten ticketed for this this year? I've gone up the last 5 or so with no issue. Was hoping to go after New Years with a green stickered only rig.

I cannot say if anyone has been ticketed. I had heard that they have told people bringing green stickered rigs up they could not use them on the road. If you look at the Forest Order and the applicable CVC codes it refferences any wheeled vehicle over 1000cc would not be allowed unless street legal.
I called the Patrol Captian today but he is not in the office right now.

Never been up there during the winter, is it currently open from the 88 side? I'll be in the area this coming week and want to check it out, but don't want to get stuck in my f250 on 35s. Think I'd be ok or is the snow too deep/icy?

The road is closed on the 88 side right at the snow park. Only access is from the lower end of the road out of Pollock Pines (or North South Road)

Where is the safest place to park a truck and flatbed trailer? Within 30 min from the MET? My Jeep is street legal, so driving for a few minutes is fine.

Thanks!

Not sure about how safe it would be, but at the Sly Park exit, at the end of the ramp, there appears to be an empty dirt lot next to a real estate office. You would be going right by it on the way to MET (about 10 minutes away). However, I've never used it since I don't trailer my rig, and I don't recall seeing trailers parked there.

On the other side of the freeway from there, is a Safeway parking lot that could be used. That is commonly used as a meet-up place for runs to MET and the Rubicon.

WLDWUN lives up there and may have better ideas.

You can just park on the shoulder on MET right before that sign saying the road is closed after the second bridge/dam. I've seen many vehicles with trailers parked there after offloading. Forest Service patrol MET pretty regularly during the day & especially on weekeneds so low chances of someone messing with your parked rig & trailer.

Agreed with Fred. I'd also say with no snow down to kiosk, that is another place to park. Good size pull in/out right near the kiosk info. Located bottom of hill and about a mile from 2nd dam. Perhaps someone scout ahead.

with the very warm weather you can park farthur up the road, I would guess between Snowmill and Pebble canyon there are a few places to pull off.

went up Sunday morning early while everything was frozen. need 4X after Pebble Canyon or just before North South.
was not a fun ride. very hard ruts, I only went to Alder Creek but I am sure Silverfork is no problem if you want to bounce around a lot.
by 11am it was slushy below North South and melting fast. needs to cool down and get more snow on top to be worthwhile.

All the dirt roads off MET will open this Saturday 4/9
No real snow on MET until Houts Road.
Went to Silverfork and there is about 4 feet on the road there, a bit more off the road in the shaded areas.
North South road has been plowed to Capps road (9N30) and from there plowed to 9N46 (Piliken road)where they are going to work on the Rainforest project.

If you want the legal answer
only Green sticker vehicles that are under 1000cc are allowed.
so Jeeps, Toyotas etc are not legal to use on MET unless they are street legal

YMMV
