My trip was a blast. Once you got past the parking lot after the last dam. Cars trying to turn around and truck pulling enclosed trailers getting stuck in the middle of the road. After all that it was good fun. Found a good hill for the kids to slide down. Started down MET about 1pm. Hope the stock 4x4s that passed us got out ok. We didn't go to far up. Buddies had semi stock 4x4s. Rather watch the kids play then watching the adults get stuck. All in all great trip. Weather was perfect.

So the zoo was that bad last weekend?
I went up to Dorrington, I tired slick rock, but there was too much powder for the TJ I took up.
Might go to MET this weekend, maybe Uncle Toms.

Are you referring to the green sticker restrictions on MET?

I know there was some confusion about why green sticker ATVs are ok but a green stickered truck wasn't in the forest order. Talking to one of the forest service employees it seemed like the not allowing green stickered street vehicles was at the request of the law enforcement officers. He didn't know why.

There are some things I've overheard but haven't see on paper. Apparently at the top of MET there are/were some "groomed" sections when it snows that I'd like to know more about. Also not sure if it's dry if you're only allowed in Gold Note/PiPi or Elkins Flat, or if any dirt road will do. Some good exploring back there.

Found some info on the groomed areas, or SNO-PARKS.

SNO-PARKS
Iron Mountain
http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1233/f...WebVersion.pdf

Nothing about UTV's though.

Here is a link to the forest order detailing what is legal in winter:
https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE...eprd522116.pdf

During the winter closures MET is one of few roads still open. The Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUMs) are updated regularly and show what is open in winter. Here is a link, scroll about half way down the page for the MVUMs: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldor...fsbdev7_019087 Seasonal trails have a grey shadow/shading on the map.

The upper 5 or 6 miles is closed to all but tracked vehicles as part of the snow park (basically everything above the Silver Fork turnoff). No UTVs, ATVs, or Jeeps unless they have tracks on them. UTVs and other green sticker vehicles are allowed on MET so long as there is snow. Most people drive up till there is 6+ inches on the road, park, and unload their toys. Don't block the road and law enforcement wont bother you beyond checking green stickers and asking you to go slow around other people. Also wear a helmet. There are private residents up there that plow, generally only to about park creek rd and there is a logging company that is harvesting up there that has permission to groom/plow as necessary. Us mere mortals must abide by the forest order and the MVUMs.

After April 1 (though the date can be moved by forest order in the event of extreme weather) all of the trails on the MVUMs open. Again, the MVUM says what you can legally operate green stickered rigs on. I try to stay off pavement but there are a few places where trail closures mean you have to ride a mile or so on pavement to connect into the next trail. Be friendly, drive slow, and the Rangers generally wont bother you about it.

Just a correction on the green sticker access part:

Vehicles with engine displacement 1000cc and less are PERMITTED on MET. Those are cvc 500 definition.

Additionally, 2wd and AWD are not permitted.

Everything else is spot on!!

Thank you, I wasn't very clear on that. Hadn't actually read cvc 500, explains why all of the 1,000cc models are actually 999cc or less.

Wh1t3uKle has it correct.

when covered in snow:
over 1000cc Green sticker is prohibited
2WD/AWD is prohibited
I do not agree with it, but it is the way it is.

also as posted in the Forest Order
you can only go as far as Silverfork Road on MET, past that point is closed to wheeled motor vehicle when covered with snow. Please abide by that rule otherwise gates will be installed and I hate gates

By Wikapedia's definition of tracks, I'm able to drive in the snowpark. What is the county's definition of tracks?

Name: 320px-Wheelbase_and_Track.png
Views: 400
Size: 33.5 KB

The axle track in automobiles and other wheeled vehicles which have two or more wheels on an axle, is the distance between the centerline of two roadwheels on the same axle. In a case of the axle with dual wheels, the centerline in the middle of the dual wheel is used for the axle track specification.
In a vehicle with two axles, this is expressed as "front track" and "rear track".
However the front wheels and/or rear wheels on either side of a vehicle do not necessarily have to be mounted on the same axle for the distance that they are apart to be called the "track".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axle_track

Who (specific name) and what office makes this decision? Is this the same government/county agency that over regulates the Rubicon? I'd like to vote accordingly at the next election. Does it seem like a vote never happens, public feedback is not even acquired and it's mandated?

If everyone votes me King, I'll drain the swamp and rule with common sense.

Tim,
you are correct a vote never happens on this issue.

You want a names of who can make it change?
Frank Aguilar (Patrol Captain)
Lawrence Crabtree (Forest Supervisor)

here is the thing though.
This would only be for allowing Greensticker vehicles on MET over 1000cc, which I am all for that. The reasoning they specifically did not allow greensticker vehicle over that limit is they felt those were capable of doing more damage. We tried to explain it is the driver, not the vehicle that is the offender, doesn't matter what they drive.

Also I do support not driving on the groomed snowmobile trail past the Silverfork Junction.

now the big one of course would be to allow driving on dirt roads when covered in snow with no ground contact.
we lost that back in 2005 and that isn't going to change as much as I would like it to.

going to be a zoo tomorrow, and many wont get far.
I am at 3740ft and got a good foot of very wet snow so far, just up the road it is closer to 2 feet as it is just a couple degrees cooler.
still coming down right now.

would expect over 3 feet higher up on MET since last weekend.

I went out Bonetti and ran into a couple people that said they were out in force.
on my way out I saw them with a group of quads they were citing for riding on MET.
the road was clear at that point as it has been plowed up to Snowmill.
