From what I know Airstrip is off-limits for a few reasons.

1) the water pipe for the office is ran up that hill off the left hand side. Since the nature of trails is getting wider and when it was open they had issues keeping people from running over the pipe, and since its all rocky there you really cant bury it.

2) Erosion, as that trail was getting more and more used, rain water would run fast down the hill and washing large amounts of red dirt in the neighbors property. BMRA trying to be good neighbors decided to close it off.

3) Noise. The trial now being 3 lanes wide and losing natural fencing from trees the people running up banging off rev-limiters etc the sound was channeled almost into the guys house that lives on the property next door, again trying to be good neighbors they closed it.

I ran Airstrip 4 times when it was open, one resulting in flopping my jeep over on its side and some Louisiana guys helping me right it. Luckily the jeep stopped with its front tires on the ledge and the back down and stayed that way. If it hadn't stopped it would have been at the bottom of the trail in a mangled mess.

I hope that clears things up a bit and you guys can understand why that one is closed. We as off-roaders are always looked down at and we have to maintain good neighbor relationships with everyone around and even in town.

BTT - anyone else?

BMRA will be installing 3 new cabins on site and they will be available for rental in July. These will be more of a "house" then a converted storage shed or KOA style cabin.

Went to the toyota Jambo in May and had a good time. Shower houses are nice. It would nice if the shitter at the RV lot would have a better exhaust fan or something. The flies/gnats that were in that thing were nuts.

I know this rule wont change, but closing down the trails at 10 pm is dumb. Night wheeling out there is so much fun. I know a select few ruined it for the collective whole, but it still sucks. I get it though. Neighbors and all.

Where will the new cabins be? near the pavilion im guessing?

I'll bring up the subject of the exhaust fans with the park and see what I can do.

As far as the night wheeling goes, you are correct, neighbors and all.

Thanks, Muddy! Its a constant thing for upkeep etc. I don't get out there near as often as I would like and everytime I go out there something is new and better.

I have been several times and I usually primitive camp. It has improved significantly over the last couple of years when the new park management took office. The trails are more mild than wild and provides a good place to introduce new blood or vehicles. The rock is sedimentary based so it is a little more forgiving than say, Hot Spring or Oklahoma. It does get dusty and your vehicle becomes permanently orange. If in an opened vehicle like a buggy/bike, expect to be more orange than a Longview stripper with bad spray tan

Nope, a few things we have talked about. The park is wanting to work with a trail app and seems to be leaning towards the Polaris Ride Command app that has a running trail guide of the trails your on. I'll try that one next time I am out there.

I am also still working on a new brochure for park information.

Which RV areas? the Premium sites or the old sites?

Shade is a difficult thing as it would have to be man-made since the trees are gone, and if you added high awnings there would be additional upkeep.

Premium. Last time I was there the dust kicked up a lot and there was little or no brush to break the sun. Lots of shade near the cabins though, so that was nice.

I agree about upkeep. Maybe bamboo could do the job?

Sorry for the late reply. I'll ask and see what they can do. The hard part as you can imagine is the planning of the areas. Also with planting things, we have to keep ppl off of it so it can grow.

We have a decent group headed out this weekend and it should be a good time. Everything from full tube buggies to full bodied trail rigs. Hopefully the rain holds off being East Tx does not need anymore for now.
