I don't post without searching and asking first. OK, so you don't know either. LOL.

Got it narrowed down, and want to be sure. Anybody else?

Wow what a douche.

This is what I found...
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&so...3,5.817261&z=8

The trail starts off as a standard Forest Service road and becomes slightly more rocky as you travel up the mountain. After about .5 miles, you cross a creek and the trail narrows considerably. Soon you come to the beginning of a rock garden that is about 1/4 mile long. The rock garden begins at a gentle slope but becomes steeper towards that top with slopes exceeding 30 degrees. As the slope increases, the trail takes on a braided form where there are multiple trails (as many as 5) which are all interwoven. None of these braids are bypasses and they are all very steep and rocky. At the top of the rock garden the mountainside is very steep and the braids all join back together into a unified trail which begins making switchbacks for another 1/4 mile to the main ridge line. This section of switchbacks includes rocks, v ditches, and exposed off camber spots. Once you reach the main ridge line, you can kick back and enjoy the rest of the trip because it's an extremely beautiful ride that is gentle for the most part but still includes a one gnarly climb, which has a fun bypass, and a few other rocky, but not too challenging sections. You will follow the ridge line for quite a few miles and finally make it to the Cheroholla Skyway at an elevation of about 5,500 ft.

Finding the beginning of the trail is a bit challenging and there aren't any accommodations like parking areas, bathrooms or anything else so it definitely isn't tailored to the general public

Thanks Matt. That's exactly what I've found, and nothing more.

My understanding is that it's open.

I'm headed up on a scouting trip Sunday after the forest road ride in North GA. There are a lot of twisty mountain roads in that area, so we should have some fun. Keep ya posted.

No problem. I am curious about this place as well. Looks like fun. Might be worth sending the guy on the other forum a message for more direct directions.

It sounds like the road just turns into the trail though.

LOL!

I think this place is a treasure and those that know want to keep it quiet. Understandably so these days.

Not sure he knows though.

sounds like a good ride, how long from blacktop to blacktop? Did we establish that it is still open?

I heard it was closed....Heres what I know,It would be best as a 2 day ride..ride in ,camp, ride out.It is a long way to the car from the hardest parts of the trail,so breaking is not really an option, because it would be a bitch to get out. The trail head is not that hard to find, its right off the Cherohala skyway just passed the Hooper bald parking area on the right. If you are planning on going in there, you need to know the area pretty good so do a little research and take a map.

I have only been there once and I could care less if I ever go back
Heres a pic of the trail head:
