In SoCal for a year - what should I put on my "must do" wheeling list?

I'm from the Midwest. I've wheeled Johnson Valley 3X and Glamis 2X in my (sold now) buggy. I have a year contract out here and want to make the most of it. I have a pretty capable Jeep on 40s that needs to stay dent-free, otherwise I'm up for whatever. I don't mind a 8+ drive - I have a brand new F350 and it loves to tow.

Current list:
Rally Venture 2X
Glamis
Johnson Valley
Pismo Beach
Dumont Dunes
Fordyce
Rubicon
Ocotillo Wells
Lake Havasu
Sand Hollow

A little drive, but....
Moab (I've been there 4X, but I can't get enough).
Blackbear (CO)

Anything else?
Also, is there are good or bad time to do each one? Times when there's something going on so I can tag along (since I know nobody out here). I get the summer heat - head up high or toward the cost for June - August.

Anybody near Moreno Valley want to show me around and/or grab a beer sometime? Any good clubs to join / Facebook groups to follow?

Awesome list, thanks.

Why Rubicon (before Jamboree)?

We also have a YFZ450 and a KFX450. Anything cool that we should be looking for to take the little rides?

It gets paved (at least it used to) during jamboree. Stuff moves around during winter making the trail a touch rougher.

For a bike, I like these places
Ocotillo
Plaster city
If you can ride the sand, any of the dunes is fun.

JV isn't too bad but it can get a little rocky. No pun intended but bent wheels suck

Mojave Trail looks very cool and basic, There also some very cool places in Death Valley to wheel.

I'd put Havasu on that list. Arizona has great trails. But they keep their shit on the down low.

Touch base when you want to wheel havasu. Parker would also be good while your here and has some fun and relatively tough trails for a full size jeep. 2nd week of November is Parker 4 wheelers 21st annual Desert Splash. It's a good event if you're into events.

Cool, thanks. I sold the TTF buggy. Everything is a lot more challenging now.

It’s been a disappointing year with Rally Venture getting canceled then my rig laid up for several months. After Thanksgiving, everything should be set and it’ll be 100% ready to rock.

So far I’ve done:
Big Bear Forest Fest – I did most / all the “hard” trails.
Trail Hero @ Sand Hollow – I did about a dozen of the trails and lots of dunes there. Fun place I would definitely go back to.
Parker Desert Splash – Good time. I would definitely go back and do a lot more of the trails there.
Pismo on our quads while the Jeep was laid up.
Next on the list is Glamis at Christmas hopefully (will be my 3rd time going here, first with the Jeep).
Johnson Valley at KOH time (will be my 4th time going there, first with the Jeep).
Dumont Dunes.

Any other events coming up?

Hope you had fun at desert splash. Thank you for supporting the event. We raised $35k for charity. Did you end up camping, or get a hotel? If camping, was noise an issue? This was our biggest event yet, and as such there was a bit of chaos. We have another event in march called the hardcore poker run. It's a good time if you care to come out.

If you want to come to havasu there is a bunch of good stuff. Let me know and I'll set up a small group to show you around.

Tierra del sol is a shit show, but pretty impressive and worth doing at least once. If you ever want to head to Tucson let me know and I'll call it a reason to visit my parents. I can bring my 4 door or my buggy. There is usually a good run in cottonwood AZ in may. I may have a group going this year. Glamis is just sand, but a lot of fun. I go out once a month-ish while the weather is good. Your welcome to camp with us.

You have my email, but if you want to do any of the above it's [email protected]

Thanks, Ryan, I appreciate it.

Parker was fun. I'd definitely go again. Noise was not really an issue for us. We camped along the fence by the road. It was noisy over by the main building, especially when they had the live music going Friday(?) night, but after a few beers, we passed out by 10pm anyway. The extra large group sizes (30+) on the trails were a bit frustrating, but I realize that's just part of an event like this.
