You killed the pump by letting the filter get plugged. Once you replaced the plugged filter the pump dies. I don't know why, but I have seen it happen more then once.
Call around. I found prices varied greatly. There is a tag on the fuel pump assembly, you need that info to get the right pump. I paid $268 at Autozone for mine. $350 was closer to dealer pricing.
