Buddy of mine has an 08 impala with the 3.5 V6.

Car has 140K on the clock, and maintenance has been routine(ly ignored).

Anyway, he brought it by to change the oil and try and figure out what this noise was..

It's a rod knocking. And it's got bad motor mounts. And it probably needs plugs

Anyway, my question is, is it possible to pull the one bad rod bearing out and replace it without pulling the crank and replacing ALL the bearings? The idea is to keep the car for another 6 months, then sell it. I'm not opposed to doing it correctly, just not sure it's worth the work and money.

What says PBB?

As long as the oil pan comes off without lifting the motor, easy bandaid fix, even if the bearing spun, and crank scaring, you could still make it run awhile, if so don’t sell it to some poor teenager you dick.

Kind of what I thought. This car has been abused, so who know what else is wrong with it. Doibt a teenager would buy this car.

scrap it for $200 and go down to the police auction to buy another one
Not my car. It was a rental, I think. Not a fan of it, at all.

08 impala it's worth the work and money.
Your location says flyover land, so am I. I have a pullout for that car sitting in my shop. If he wants it, pm me.($450) If he wants to sell the car, pm me. (assuming we're close enough) If its reasonably straight I'll put a motor in it. Ive sold more than a dozen of them this year.

Wife had an 2011 impala for a year or so. From 9k yo 40k. It always ran (with excessive maintenance) but It was unbelievable that GM engeneers could develop a car that was so horrible at everything.

you've seen the bad car engineering thread right?

I must be lucky, I had a 2006 with a 3.5 from 0miles to 165,000. GM replaced a power steering hose under warranty and I replaced an oil pressure switch. That was it besides normal preventative maintenance. It was totaled when my wife was rear ended or we would still be driving it.

Was it a thrill inducing hot rod? no
Did it look like every other grandma car? Yes

It was totally reliable for us.

so related.

friend just called me and said her mom's 08 impala won't shift.
Goes into D and R, moves, but won't hit another gear.

I'm figuring power supply to TCM issue, but haven't looked at it. @xr-nut
you seem to know them. Any common harness TCM issues?

I cant say we've had that issue, sorry. Maybe a solenoid in the trans? fluid full, reasonably clean?

We had 3 of those pieces of shit at work. The 2000 lived to go to the auction. The 2004 blew 2 engines. The 2007 caught on fire and burned mostly to the ground.

Likely a shift solenoid.
