I'm building a full floating rear axle for my 4-Runner. The base is an 86 1 ton full floater.

The dilema, 79 - 85 bearing carrier and solid discs fit the spindle, 86 IFS BC with vented discs fit, and 94 FJ80 BC and discs fit. Problem - threaded part at end of spindle sticks out past the bearing carrier/hub.... this leads to what won't fit - the 86 1 ton axle shaft... at least, not with out a custom spacer ring and longer studs. Anyone know if there is a factory axle shaft, say the long side of a 79 - 85 mini truck or maybe FJ80 that will fit with a manual hub?

Search brought up nothing on this.

Thanks,
Brian

Why aren't you using 3/4 ton chevy rotors? they have correct offset for hub. If you are trying to stay 6 lug you're gonna need custom axles...."Dutchman" $$$$

ok you have a 86 toyota 1-ton FF axle correct? And your saying that a front bearing hub off a 86 IFS fits it correct? but the thread is sticking out past the end of the bearing hub? Can you cut that part of it off? all i can say is experiment.

I always make things confusing... don't I? <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Any front bearing carrier and disc will fit on the FF rear. Then 79 - 85 mini truck manual hubs will bolt on. Just curious if there is a stock front axle shaft that will fit.

Experiment, yup. I'll have to break down an FJ80 and mini truck axle to see if the long side axles will fit the bill.

Thanks for the input.

What is the width of that axle? think i could get some company like moser to build some axles with a drive flange? i just dont like the idea to put all the power through a front hub. but thanks for your info on this, i thought if i got that axle i would have to go with the wide 6 on the rear and the regular 6 on the front.

Nope, no big lug... though I think Stockton Wheel makes some Power Wagon wheels that would fit.

I don't really want a hub in back, either. The stock 1 ton axle shaft with drive flange will still slide into its stock position in the diff... the problem is the bearing carrier from the mini truck front (as well as the FJ80) sits inboard about 3/4" - 1" to far for the drive flange to engage it. A spacer could be machined to fill this space, some longer studs, 2 gaskets... yummy! I'll look into it.

Oh, BTW, the 1 ton FF uses a very trick nut to adjust bearing preload. 2 screws secure a single nut afer you preload.... waaaay nicer than banging over some tabs to lock 2 nuts together.

Search on BJOWETT's posts via clicking on his name..

read the other wide axle threads that he started...
The states all the parts he used

http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51983

Spacers...

He mentions a high $$ OEM axle that fits in a different thread?

If I recall the pic - the spacer is a pretty simple piece.. a metal donut with some holes drilled in it - longer hub studs and some holes for the dowels and maybe some dowels for the axle?.

i wonder how much that would cost. probably more than my wallet can afford right now.

if all i need is a metal donut with some holes drilled in it - longer hub studs and some holes for the dowels and maybe some dowels for the axle?. than that would be more cost effective. all the pics are old and not hosted anymore!!!! grrrr. oh well ill have to search more. thanks for the input.:D
