Can someone with anecdotal or empirical data regarding these two (1310 and 85 Toyota) CV units comment on the strength differences? Same, similar, vastly different?

I've got a 2.5L TJ, AX5, Klune 4:1, D300, 33s currently but will be going as large as 37s with this setup. I'd like to use Toy CV's as I already have one (and I'd like to stick with Toy stuff) and I am upgrading to Toy axles front 4cyl - rear V6. I would need to purchase a Spicer flange and re-drill and machine to use the Toy CVs, but it is "do-able".

Thanks for any input.

When i talked to Jess about building me a 1310 CV for my T-case side and either a Toy U-joint or 1310 adaptor for my FZJ80 axle side, he said the Toy U-joint was MUCH stronger than a 1310.

I'm not sure if that helps you or not. I don't know if the CV specific units.

in my opinion toyota is stronger- but on a dana 300 t-case we usually recomend running the 32 spline rear output and 1350 series to get away from the strength issues - becuase generally speaking 1310 with a 35' tire or larger sucks! Jess :D

Jesse- Do you sell either a 26 or 32 spline output flange that is "modifiable" for use with a Toy CV? Modified would mean offset re-drilling for Toy bolt pattern and machining the center bolt hole to fit the Toy centering lip.

Also in your experienced opinion would the D300 stock 26 spline shaft or the Toy U-joint "give up" first?

Thanks

Most people with Toyotas don't have any problem with driveshafts breaking unless they have poor angles. the driveshafts are much stronger than the axles.

My old Land Cruiser was one example of Toy CV strength:
Ford 5.0L H.O. -> T-18 -> toy turbo t-case.
in the rear I used a shortened '85 toyota front driveshaft going into a Tacoma axle. The driveshaft never had a problem doing wheelies with the 5.0L but when I dumped the clutch hard one time too many... the t-case output shaft twisted off!!!

Keep in mind the driveshaft I was running still had the stock 1985 u-joints in it!!!

Seems to me that I've read Jess saying that all the Toy stuff is forged vs. the Spicer stuff being just cast too...?

The old Spicers were hot forged.

I tried to find dimensions for the Toyota joints, but couldn't.

The "retention method" theory sounds good, though I can't remember what the Toyota method is. Anyone got a pic?

Okay here it is - all toyota parts are steel not cast iron a more expensive way to make stuff- and in my opinion the joints are made (oem) out of some bad ass shit- (unconfirmed) but real metal alloy of some sort- now the rebutle yes 5-785x spicers are kik ass and strong the yokes availalbe are not nearly as strng in design and metal as yoda stuff- there you go- i have had guys with small block 350's dual cases ( marlins ) and dana 60-14bolt combo's and 40' tires not breaking and kikin ass on the trail- now would a 1310 slip yoke (spicer mind you) and cast iron end yokes hold up to that ? HELL NO -Jess :D we even run toy c/v's oem one's and 1410 joints at the diff and its a toss up what will go- usually the toy output shaft-:D-and by the way i drive a chevy and hate inner snap rings - but the fact remains toyota stuff is steel and stronger!
