Rebuilding my first diff. in a 10.5" 14 bolt. Wondering if some of the more knowledgeable could give me an opinion on this pattern.
Backlash is at .007"
.020" and .017" shims looked like the pinion was too shallow to me. These photos are with a .013" shim.

Decrease your pinion shim and your backlash some. I like to have my pinion depth set so there is about a fingernail thick amount of paint between the mark and the edge of the tooth.

Thanks for taking a look. Another try with a 0.011" shim and 0.005" backlash.

Looks great for a wheeling rig/driver.
If this is going in a heavy truck that tows/hauls alot though, that backlash might be a hair tight for good oil clearances once the diff gets good & hot.
