5.13 gears are made "thick' to fit the 4.10 and down carrier's specifically. An open diff is desireable because you can put many locker's in them(locrite,detroit,etc..)
The backing plates were just removed and tossed in the scrap pile. I was planning to burn plates out for Caddy calipers but ran into a 2003 warranty takeout at a local dealer for not much more than a salvage yard axle. The drums are still on the hubs.
The gearset is another warranty takeout from the same dealer so the gears are factory GM. Another customer had a pinion bearing failure and the dealer replaced the gear set just in case. The contact pattern looks fine though.
I will be in the Kzoo area from Xmas day to the Saturday or Sunday after Xmas.
