1500HD had the 2500LD frame, still stronger / beefier then the 1500.IIRC the 1500HD has the frame of the 1500 with the axles and motor/trans of the 2500. The 2500 is available with 3.73's or 4.10's and has the larger frame then the 1500HD(shares with the 2500HD). The 2500HD has a 2 inch body lift and is available in 4.10 gears only. This is assuming you are talking about 2002-2007 model years.
My 02 2500HD 8.1 truck has an AAM 11.5(3.73 G80) rear end. I think all GMT800 trucks were AAM axles rather than Corporate 14 bolts which came in the earlier trucks, but I could be mistaken.1500HD had the 2500LD frame, still stronger / beefier then the 1500.
All have Hydroboost brakes
14 bolt SF rear end if memory serves in the 1500HD/2500
14 bolt FF rear end in the 2500HD
3.73s were avail in the 1500 HD 4.10s only in the 2500HD.
2500HD can be had with the 8.1 and allison.
you sure about this??The 2500HD has a 2 inch body lift and is available in 4.10 gears only.
I believe you are correct.isnt the 2500HD frame beefier than the 2500LD ? That's where people get the 2" "body lift" from it's actually a taller frame so they make up the difference on the front bumper with the little filler peice.. the rear is not as noticeable til you put next to a standard truck and you can see the 2" bigger gap between bumper and tailgate
isnt the 2500HD frame beefier than the 2500LD ?
X3. The 1500 is the lightest frame, then the 1500HD/2500LD then the 2500HDyes...
i have an '00 2500 and an '01 2500HD. the HD frame is bigger.
Pretty much. I believe when the 1500HD came out, the 2500 was done away with. A 2500 should only be 1999-2000. 2500HD is 2001 and up. Not sure if the 1500HD started as a 2000 or 2001.could it be said the 1500hd and the 2500 are the 'same truck'?
Pretty much. One was a crew cab short bed (1500HD) and the other an extended cab long bed (2500)could it be said the 1500hd and the 2500 are the 'same truck'?
perfect, thanks for the info guys!Pretty much. I believe when the 1500HD came out, the 2500 was done away with. A 2500 should only be 1999-2000. 2500HD is 2001 and up. Not sure if the 1500HD started as a 2000 or 2001.
GM calls it a "IDEN 2" Body Lift per GM Buildsheet" I believe it has same frame just taller body mounts.isnt the 2500HD frame beefier than the 2500LD ? That's where people get the 2" "body lift" from it's actually a taller frame so they make up the difference on the front bumper with the little filler peice.. the rear is not as noticeable til you put next to a standard truck and you can see the 2" bigger gap between bumper and tailgate
True, but my 2500 is an extended cab short bed. I think all 1500HDs were crew cab. Otherwise same truck.Pretty much. One was a crew cab short bed (1500HD) and the other an extended cab long bed (2500)
You should measure the frame height under your bed and door tomorrow and I'll do the same on my 2500hd. I'm fairly confident my body mounts aren't 2" taller than a 1500...True, but my 2500 is an extended cab short bed. I think all 1500HDs were crew cab. Otherwise same truck.
Kevo
I think that was GMC only thing. I know my 02 Chevy 8.1 doesn't have it.I know for sure that the diesel 2500HD GMC has a filler underneath the grille to accommodate the extra clearance required by the duramax/allison vs a 2500/1500. I'd suspect it's the same for the 8.1 and 6.0 as well?
The 02's Chev's had that big hump in the hood, compared to the 1/2 ton. Whenever they went to the Avy' front end (03?) Chevy used a taller piece of plastic on the top of the bumper vs 1/2 tons, in lieu of the added grille piece GMC used.I think that was GMC only thing. I know my 02 Chevy 8.1 doesn't have it.
