got the 33" tires on! and the rusty wheels are a pretty good match lol







I am waiting on a 5th matching tire for the spare, and then ill be making a custom spare tire carrier, mounted to the bumper.

i got the driveshafts yesterday and went on the first drive!!!





the front driveshaft needs some work...at normal ride height, there was a little bind at the u-joint in the front. I used a grinder to remove some material, and it works now, but any downward travel of the axle will see it binding up again. I may have to get some custom flanges made to adapt another CV head at the diff. But the rear works fine since I was able to tilt the rear axle up when I did my SPOA swap. ive already contacted a driveline shop that seems to be able to make custom high angle flanges/shafts, so hopefully they get back to me soon.

and yes I know I have a fuel leak, I need a new gasket for my fuel level sender, happening hopefully later today.

I am so excited to get this thing driving! as far as I know, it has not seen a road in over 20 years!!!

I've started work on my custom bumper mount spare tire carrier:







For the "hinge" I am using a rear wheel hub from a Mercedes...I figure if a wheel hub is good enough to support 1/4 the weight of a whole car, its good enough to hold the weight of a spare tire and carrier! I still need to get all the square tubing to continue this, and a tire put on my spare wheel.

I also got started designing a new fuel tank for the patrol:



it will go in the same spot as my current tank (which is not an OEM patrol tank already), and hold about 23.8 gallons! I made it about 3 inches deeper than the current tank, since there is so much ground clearance from the SPOA swap and 33" tires. Also has the extension portion towards the front to make use of some empty space under the body!

The custom spare tire carrier is done! Check it out:











It came out better than I expected, and the hinge operation of the wheel hub is so smooth! The passenger side barn door barely clears the "striker" that holds the carrier closed...

That thing is great. I have a 68/9 Patrol that needs brakes too. Last time I looked the only place to find wheel cylinders and pads was Australia and those were even hard to find over there. My Patrol has been parked since I got it in about ‘08 because of no brakes.

How much do you want for a set of those caliper brackets for front and back or even a blueprint so I can make my own?

I did the rear shock mounts and shocks as well, but didnt get a picture of them. And here is a shot of my custom high steer setup:



The only problem with it is, the "socket" on the steering arm hits the tire on the wheels I have. I put the wheel directly onto the hub for the time being with no rotor or anything, so it may get spaced out a bit more, but this will be something I need to check for sure.
I don't think this high steer is good. I believe the tierod can pivot forward and back causing play in your steering. (I could be wrong)

you're definitely right, but it works for now. I do eventually want to make a beefier steering setup, but racing season is coming up so my money and time is focused there right now

Idea for your High steer arms. This is what a friend of mine did on his patrol :

This guy did a real nice job, but you wouldn't need to go to that extent. Just make the top plate and tie it in to the original arm. (He cut his off) One long bolt through the original arm, spacer and your new arm, then through a hiem. (New tierod made with hiems.)

The other option is leave the tierod and just make a new draglink and go to a plate/arm on the one side.

yeah my first choice was to leave the tie rod and go with a custom machined top piece for the drag link. BUT, the tie rod is actually slightly bent, so i might as well find a way to replace the tie rod as well

Love the swing away tire. Does it have a stop so it can't keep going and hit the side?
yes, after the initial build (which the pictures are depicting), I added a strap between the arm and bumper to keep it from swinging out too far. re-purposed an old seat belt haha

I finally got started on my parking brake install. Since I no longer have the OEM drivetrain, the OEM handbrake system was out (it was mounted on the oem transfer case). Luckily I have those 240sx rear calipers though! I got an OEM parking brake system from a nissan 240sx and got to work. First thing I had to do was get the rear cables installed and make a custom mount to bolt them to.





This is the OEM nissan handbrake assembly...you can see there is a plate that joins both cables into 1 for the handle to pull on. I will make use of this and adapt it to a custom mounted OEM Patrol handbrake that I ordered from ebay!



Hopefully will have the handbrake complete in a few weeks or so :)

Project "Confuse-a-car-thief" has made some headway (adding more random levers to the interior lol). I got the handbrake assembly made and installed into the Patrol! Came out real well! Next is "plumbing" the cable to connect it back to the rear cables. I will get some more pics of it installed in the Patrol hopefully tomorrow.





I am using the OEM Patrol handbrake, custom mounted to a 1/4" thick steel plate, and I adapted the "cable pull" section of the Nissan 240SX handbrake to the Patrol handbrake. This is so I can still use the adjusting nut of the 240sx cable to tighten or loosen it up for perfect tension. Works great!
