Double check what transfer case is in the '88. It should be a NP241, not a NP203. The NP203 was only used from '75-'79, unless someone stupidly swapped it. But no, a NP203 would not be a bolt in due to the driveshafts and having to lock the CAD. The NP241 would bolt in place of the NP208, and would be a slight upgrade but I would adjust the shifter linkage on the NP208 first as it is a common cause of your issue.

Also, make sure it has the correct fluid. NP208 and NP241 transfer cases use ATF.

Yeah my np208 will not go into N or 4lo the shifter is adjusted and the fluid is good I think it is the range fork.

The only problem is I can not find any good replacement parts to redo my 208 as far as range fork chain and seals. I know it is not to hard to replace the range fork.

If you can use a computer, you should have no trouble finding seals. The chain should also not be an issue. The fork might be a problem considering the NP208 has been out of production since 1987. If the drivetrain shops can't help, used may be the only answer. For all the trouble, I'd just find a good used NP241.

If we knew where you lived, it would help. If you were near me, I'd give you the builder 208 in my garage.

A Dodge NP205, NP208 and NP241 will bolt up to your '84s transmission. The NP205 would require driveshaft mods, the NP241 is a bolt in swap. An NP203 looks nothing like any of the other transfer cases with a large cast steel housing and a fairly large aluminum housing in the front for the low range box. You can easily Google pics of any transfer case you desire for comparison.

241 has the ID tag on the driver's side of the case. It's what my '92 RC has.
