Were their different sizes? My stock bracket measure 3"x5" for the four compressor mounting bolts. The compressor I got measures 3.5" x 5". I asked for a compressor for an 87.

I am not sure, but I do recall that the compressor on my 90 truck was NOT the same as the compressor on my 87 4Runner.

Just found the same thing.. 86 to 88 = different brackets and compressors.
The 86 bracket is too small for the 88 compressor.
Anyone want to sell me the right one?

 odd - I just ran into this last week on my 86 DD4-runner. The donor was an 85 extended cab and it was too small to mount to my 86 4-runner.

I got a 2WD that's somewhat different too. Its compressor mounting is made out of aluminum and it has a dual pulley compressor on it. It could be an aftermarket setup. I didn't pay that much attention to the 2WD donor - was only after the engine.
