Have a friend with a 90 Xcab 4x4 V-8 5speed w/ 60K miles
recently purchased to replace his 89 Nissan that has 200K on it.

Uses it for working around construction sites and cant use it cause it has open diffs front and rear, and the Nissan had LS in both.

Is looking for the cheapest way to install at least a rear LS.

Is there a place where he can order a drop out with LS. like an Auburn?

Is the later model Toyota Electric locker dropout interchangeable?
what about swapping the whole axle? same width?

If there is not a cheap way to do this, he will buy another used Nissan, since all the SE's come with LS f&r.

and the Toyota will be for sale for about $8K

add a lockwrong. front and rear this way you don't have to resetup gears and if you have any know how you could do it yourself. or weld it up.

Lots of places sell dropouts with limited slips. Go pick up any major 4wd mag.

There's a bunch of info on here about e-lockers. They'll swap in with minimal metal work.

'95.5+ (Tacoma) has a 60" rear axle that will swap right in. His existing one is 58".

Oops its the stock V-6 sorry.

I think the lectric locker or ARB or LS would be better, since its a daily driver, and uses it to pull a boat too.

I know I wouldnt wanna be pulling a boat with automatic locker in the rear axle.

ALso is the ratio on a tag somewhere?
or does Toyota use the same ratio in all the axles?

Dont know much about working on Toyotas since mine never broke.

5 speeds usualy have 4:10's. if you look at the faq at the top of the page it tells you a lot of info about this stuff.
