2009 Bumper

I would like to look at this whole bumper thing for 2009.

It has come up many times that with the drops and terrain that Pro Mod Teams are running now, it may be safer to do something with the bumper rule. Teams more often than not "lawn dart" themselves into the ground. I also think we need to keep the bumper rule somewhat the same so that we do not let teams move their bodies back so far that the vehicle starts to get further removed from looking like an OEM.

What I propose is that:

We first mandate bumpers as an actual bumper (a single bar connecting the frame rails) is not actually required in the 2008 rules.

Second, we say that the bumper which in 2008 and prior is supposed to sit at the front of the front tire, now gets moved back only 3 inches toward the motor.

This way we don't have people "ken bluming it" with two rails pointing out which I think looks hideous and dangerous, but we also don't loose the integrity of the OEM look. We make the trucks a WORLD more capable, the majority of teams more happy, the sport less dangerous, and keep the vehicle look.

Comments please...

I think it will make competitors alot more happy. You guys spent ALOT of time this year on the bumper rule. Just as long as you make it look finished by tying the frame rails together, I like the idea. But what do I care?
What are you ging to do with your new bad ass bumper measuring devise?

We could add 3 inches to it :D

Make it heavier to drag around...
I just want that pimp wheel its attached to! I would like to see it moved back a little and I think 3 inches is fair. We can still make the rigs look like OEM style front ends but a lot safer on the drops. especially when they are the same as the unlimited guys!:flipoff2:

I doubt I will change mine though, as I have not had a problem. I have always had a problem with the ones that go thru the headlights, I don't like the look at all and it takes away from the headlight rule.
Any other thoughts?
Definately sounds reasonable with what you are proposing Rich. I think the safety of the teams you have put first which is good. Less lawn darting equals less down time after they roll. Faster events. Kens is definately out there and I agree kinda looks weird. Kills the intention of the rule and class. Leave it to him to find the limits.
