I'm not going to the stealership for em. I'm putting a new cam in the winter beater and I can't find ANY auto parts store that sells just the cam bearings. I have looked here, online, e-bay and I'm coming up empty.

Who's got a source? I know someone does!

Have you ever taken a 22RE apart? I mean seriously.
yes actually I have. Have you?
call the dealer and ask them for cam bearing. If you call and ask for the parts availability you are not forced to buy them. they may hang up on you, or they may just put you on hold for a very long time.
Don't you find it odd, that you can find cam bearings for damn near the oddest vehicles, but not for a 22re, which is one of the most common motors in the world, besides a 350,302,and 318.
If for any insane reason you have cam bearings, you head was damaged from being ran with no oil, and it wasted the head, and this was the fix you got, or the previous owner.

OK so your saying that it does not have cam bearings. So what does the cam ride on in a stock head?

Mine has cam bearings. This is really starting to piss me off.

So does anyone have any idea how to figure out what I need? I have 2 of the 3 bearings. The last one is MIA. There are no numbers or markings that I can tell on them.

the onlt way someone bushed the canm is if the head had been warped. But that is not even the correct way to fix it. The cam journals may have been badly scored and some shop put bushings in it. The caps should have been shaved and then the head align bored and honed. But someone cut bushings and put them in there.

Sorry your only option is go to a machine shop and see if someone can make babbet(sp) bearings for you. Or buy another head.

I am a cert. Toyota parts guy and have been for 5 years now. 22RE's DO NOT have cam bearings from the factory. Or do we sell repair bearings or any kind for a cam.

cam rides on the aluminum head.

you are going to have to go to an OLD school machine shop and get specailly made babbet(sp) bearings.

So if I have another head I can use that would be the route to go I guess.

So, to do a cam change on a good 22re it's just an unbolt the caps put the new cam in and go deal?

I guess I'm totally lost in the world of 4 bangers and can't fawking believe they would put a moving part in something without a bearing.

It's been working for a long, long time. Think about this, a lot of crank and rod bearings are made of aluminum, same stuff the head is made of.

And just so you know... this thread SUCKS WITHOUT PICS!:flipoff2:

Yeah I know! This thread plain suck a dick period. Man I am so fawking pissed.

So I find the receipt and the motor was reman'd by parts America to the tune of $1869. I called their motor division and talked with a bunch of retards there. The manager will be back in an hour and I can re-tell my story to him. I have a pic of the motor tag so they say it can be traced.

Maybe I will get some $$ back from them. Or I'm gonna make another "TAP sucks" thread.

When the cam is installed, a grease is used as the initial bearing. Located on each contact area of the cam to the head, there is a pinhole that spits oil between the surfaces. As long as you have oil pressure, you have an "OIL" bearing.
