Well I have a 85 toyota pickup with the 22re motor. I was driving down the road and the heater hose that goes to the heater core front value popped. I replaced it but now it over heats. It only over heats when it just is warming up from being cooled. It will be fine for a minute but then it will warn up and hit the red on the gauge. But I did find out if I turn then heater control to cool the temp with go down intantly and then I can turn the heat back on and it will work correctly. My question is, Is there a valve that is broke or not working right?

yea i did read it. The things that I wounder is it just started to happen out of the blue. I dont really know...but I think i will try it.
Yes, that issue can happen out of the blue. A different t-stat, different radiator, different head is all it takes. That's what happened with my 22RE, and the 2-valve t-stat cured it.

Did you overheat it when the heater hose blew? If yes you may have blown an HG or warped the head.

I am betting it is the T-stat, listen to what 4crawler says, he is the man on cooling systems and a lot of other stuff!!!!
