22re problems.........STILL.....fuel pump bad? please help or its up for sale!!!

started a few months ago........great when cold. when it warms up, looses midrange power and the desire to accelerate like it should. if i race it around or hit the freeway and the RPMs stay high for while, when i get off the freeway it hesitates and sputters. this is all between 2200 and 3200 rpms. TPS, AFM, coil, ignitor, wires, sensors, switches......all good. has a header and cam. fuel pressure regulator? i am 95% sure its my injectors cutting out os not spraying.........HELP! this is beein goin on for months........i want it fixed NOW!

not yet. i'm halfway scared to. donest use any oil so if it was down on compression, i would guess valve problems.......BUT about 3 or 4 minutes after i get off the freeway. its back to normal and runs ALMOST perfect, just ocassionaly doggy in the midrange. this is so weird......oh yeah and if i just hammer it all the time is revs up just fine, and if i accelerate slowly its fine. just normal to moderate acceleration its doggy about 80% of the time. on the freeway you can feel it.....you'll be crusin almost full throttle at about 70-75 and then you will feel it PULL and it starts actually using all the throttle you are giving it and it will then run my rig up to 90 mph with 37's this is y i think its fuel delivery related.

I had a problem with my 22Re when I bought it. I had really bad low end performance, but ran ok at higher RPMs. Gutless midrange. What I did was put a timing light on it and slowly rev the motor. What I found was that the timing would go from 5 degrees BTDC to about 30 degrees BTDC, with no in between. This is the default mode for a brain dead efi computer. It allows the truck to run if the computer dies. What should happen is that the timing should strobe through the range as the rpms change. After, I bought a new computer and it has run great ever since.

Are you SURE the TPS is ok? Even if it reads ok measurements, I'd borrow a friend's for an hour or two and see if it helps.

Dang, I thought you would of had it fixed by now. If all you say is good, and the compression is good too...then I guess you're in the right direction with the injectors being next...good luck!

Have you changed the fuel filter???? The pain in the ass one under the intake ???? these filters do need to be changed now and then.. Being that your fuel system runs at high pressure with a backed up filter it might run fine with very little fuel demand but when you need more it may have to much restriction... IF it only does this when you have a demand for fuel (high load ) like freeway driving It sounds like you are starving for fuel..Also if your fuel filter is new you should check the output of the fuel pump..I have a factory toyota manuel on the 85 through 88 toyota pickups and can give you the info on what it should be putting out and how to check it...Let me know...Pat

its only a sugestion but I had a 84 extra cab 4x4 and it did the same, bugged the shit out of me for about 3 mounths untill an old guy told me to try undoing the gas cap, he said when running at high rpm the motor is taking the gas out of the tank faster than the gas cap or vet will let the air back in, it creates a vacume and proforms almost like you are running out of gas. final fix was replaced the gas cap and the problem was gone. just my .02 cents worth.

Which error codes?

Also, try removing and replacing the computer connectors. I chased some weirdness on mine for couple months that turned out to be bad connector contacts on the computer plug. Problem came back later, removed the connector, put it back on and the problem hasn't returned.

just an idea but a bad egr valve would cause the symptoms you discribed. If you even have one.

good luck

What year is it? Maybe it's the comp like 76tlc said...if you have the toyota factory service manual you can find the test procedure for checking the comp..trying to fix your truck without this book is hit and miss.

is it fixed yet. I had problems with my old truck until I topped off the wiper fluid, lubed the muffler bearings and checked the air in the tires:D

good luck.
