Anyone have this problem. After I installed it and put it back in my Jeep. I cant get it to shift into 4wd. After 2 days of laying under it in the rain Ive come to the conclusion that Im going to have to pull it out again and bust it open :mad3: Ive done everything I can think of from a prybar to a BFH and it5 still wont budge from 2wd.

If I have to take it out again Im going back with a tera low or something like it.

P.S. Yall can burn me for asking this ? but search was down and I really dont give a fawk

I would pull it and find out what's wrong instead of butching it with a BFH:shaking:

Pull it apart and look at the shift range forks, make sure everything is in the correct spot, ensure that you put the oil pickup back in place at the bottom of the tcase. Also before you do tear it down, double check the linkage to make sure its not binding somewhere.

Also, look at the bushing that the shaft rides on. Believe it or not, this $1.50 peice can get galled up, and keep it from shifting.

thanks. The linkage is not even hooked up on it. I cant even move the lever on the case to hook the linkage up on it. Im pulling it out as soon as it quits raining and installing a tera low in it.

I remember something to that effect in the instructions. Some needed modification, some didn't. Mine didn't need to be cut.

What type of vehicle are we dealing with, and who's SYE?

On my YJ, I used an AA SYE (p/n# 50-7906). In order for the t-case to shift correctly, I had to cut 1/2" off the shift rail. Below is a portion of the AA SYE install guide.


NOTE: On some NP231 transfer cases, the shift rail must be shortened.
This shift rail protrudes out of the transfer case and goes into the
tailhousing. The new tailhousing has a pocket depth of 1.125".
Shift your transfer case into 4WD so the shift rod is protruding the
furthest out of the transfer case. If this shifter rod protrudes more than
1" out of the back side of the transfer case, then the shift rail must be
shortened. Ideally the shift rod should protrude exactly 1".
Transfer cases that will normally require this rail to be shortened
measure 1.5".
Using a hack saw or cutoff wheel (and safety glasses), trim the shift
rail shaft so that it protrudes only 1".

There's nothing to cut on the TJ. I bet your shift fork or shaft is installed wrong or something.

thats what Im thinking it is. I was hoping I wouldnt have to go back in it. But since I am Im going to put a 4 to 1 kit in it:D
