I have a `73 Chevy long bed pickup that i am converting over to 3/4 ton springs and need the axles to match. I have a 44 up front and a 12 bolt in the rear, both w/a 6lug bolt pattern and supposibly 4.11:1 gearing. What i would like to know is what the best axles would be, where to get them, what is a good price, basically any info anyone has would be a great healp. I plan to use 35" or 36" tires and want more offroad performance and would like to still be able to cruise at 60mph in 4th gear with my granny 4speed. One last thing, i just offered a guy $500 for a 14bolt W/gov lock(blah)and 3.73s, Dana 60 front w/3.73s, and a good bed off his truck. Is this a good deal? He states that they are in good condition. Well, any info for this young brain of mine is greately appreciated. Thanks.

Hell yeah. Jump on that asap. only dilemma now is 8 lug rims and getting 15 inch rims on a D60. Gov-lok will work for a long time as long as you don't do burn outs and use the required oil addative from the GM dealer. bout 8 bucks at the counter. God luck bro

I paid $900 for my front d60, which I considered a good deal. If you end up not buying it, tell me. I could always use another one. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

If the 14 bolt is from a 1 ton truck, the spring perches and shock mounts will have to be moved to fit on your 73. If you get one from a 3/4 ton truck it'll bolt right in. Also if the 14 bolt is already gov-locked you won't be able to put a detroit in later, if you go that route. Also, what year truck did the axles come out of? Its rare to see 3.73's on a 1 ton truck. And Dana 60's didn't come on 1 ton trucks til after 1977.

SavageK5, thanks for responding. The 60 came out of a '83 3/4 ton and the 14 comes out of a older 2 wheel drive truck. Thanks for the info about the gov-lock; I forgot about that.

Azzi,

Have you actually seen this D60? If so, how many u-bolts does it have on the passenger side? If it is one, it is a 60, if two, it's not. I wasn't aware that 60's came on any 3/4 ton's

If the axle came out of an '83 3/4 ton truck, then its not a D60. D60's came out of 4x4 1 Tons (K30). An 83 3/4 ton truck would have a 10 bolt 8 lug front.
