Sorry, just had to give you a proper welcome. Depends on if you care to drill or not. Smack in the middle of the roof is going to work best. If you have a rear spare carrier that works well also. Most guys I know with pickups put them on the inside rear corner of the bed. Just a standard "L" type bracket.

I use a little 14" glass mount CB antenna. It looks like a cell phone antenna but it works fine for the trail. Most of the time you are only a few hundred yards at most from the rig you want to talk to. $15 at Walmart.

Ya..I put the whip in one hand and mount from the rear....Oh wait thats the other whip-n-mount, hahaha! Yea the right welcome!!
Mine is mounted on the r\rear of my 4runner on my slider bumper I made and extends up as a lite protector also with a spring & a radio shack 36" steel whip at the top, flexes much better than then fiberglass ones that I have snapped off 2x.

<font color="yellow"> Yeah, roof is great for signal reception... Then you roll it, break the antenna, and tear a hole in the roof, all at once.

Remember, you have to clear low hanging stuff occasionally too, so try and keep it about as short as the truck's roof. I'm putting mine on my rear bumper behind the right taillight, spaced away from the sheetmetal. That way it will be shorter than the fibergalss top. We have lots of trees here - so I'm trying to keep it from getting snagged by one so it won't whiplash back into the body of the rig.

Official welcome from me:

I use a mag mount on the roof and hate it. Find a corner to mount it to, that way you can roll to your heart's content.
