My buddy has a 1987 F150 with 302 and was putting a new timing chain on but he didnt pay attention to how the marks were lined up when he pulled the chain off should. I just wanted to double check that if I just put the motor on TDC on #1 cylinder and then line the marks up right?

at the very least take your rockers off. if you use a wrench or something to turn the cam with the valvetrain active you run the risk of hitting a piston with a valve while you are trying to line up the crank & cam.
