i've got a [barely] running 360 in my J10 right now, i'd like to pull it and rebuild it, or drop something bigger in.

i also have a rebuilt 304 in a cherokee, i'm planning on parting out the cherokee. 304 has a manual behind it (t15a), 360 has an auto behind it (tf727).

the 304 and 360 used different flexplates right? so i have to get a 304 flexplate to have that engine work in front of my tf727.

will a flexplate from a 304/999 combo work? or is there a specific flexplate for a 304/727 application i need to get? i'd like to get used parts (cheap) but am willing to spring for new stuff.

any help/links/sources are appreciated, thanks

Wow. That's one Clean J-10. I don't know about your Flexplate though.

I say go get a 401 V8 and put a shift kit in that Auto. (Neck Breaking shifts are always fun)

budget is the key word here :flipoff2:

'sides, 401s are insanely rare. if i'm going to hunt down a whole new engine block, i'm just gonna get a 454 and convert my drivetrain to chebby. now that i've said that, watch me find a 401 tomorrow for 5¢

i've got the 304, it runs. it's just a temp solution til i can get a decent sized engine working...

anythoughts on the swap? anyone? thanks

The 304/999 flexplate will work. The 999 and 727 share the same bolt pattern for the torque convertor. You may also find some early 70's AMC cars that used the 304/727 combo. Hornets and Gremlins could be had with the 304. A new flexplate can be had pretty cheaply (around $50).
