I'm looking to figure out why my TPI 305 is idling so high. It idles way high upon startup (like 2500) and comes down to like 1200. It does that after driving for any distance, too. If you rev the engine, it settles to about 1000. It should be about 7-800 at idle. Is there an adjustment I can make? Everything seems to be computer controlled. It seems to be worse when idling into a head wind. I do have a cone K&N filter on the front of the throttle body.

HELP!!!

Thanks in advance! By the way, it's out of a 92 Firebird Formula and I have the painless wiring harness and chip in the stock computer.

sounds to me that your map sensor has gone, You can buy a tpi tech manual from any auto parts store, that and a volt-meter you can diagnose just about everything. Hope this helps.

Sounds like your throttle position sensor is either out of adjustment or has gone bad.

Mine does the same thing, part of my problem is that my throttle blades won't always close all the way. do you have access to a scanner, if not find one, then you can compare target idle to actual idle.
This web site has lots of good info on TPI's http://www.thirdgen.org or http://www.thirdgen.org/new design/tech/promintro.shtml try it you WILL like it. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
