i have a line on a 390 Cad from a '63 de Ville for free. it needs a rebuild, most likely. there is *something* wrong with the #7 cylinder, but it runs/ran when we pulled it out of the car. so i can get this thing free, would it be a good engine for a Toy? there are TH400s that bolt right behind it. will this thing be a pain to find parts for? thanks guys.

Keep in mind there were 2 Cadillac 390s. The '63 is the second 390. It was only made in '63. Its basicly a de-bored 429 (1964-1967).

yeah this 390 is from a '63 DeVille. it may not even need a rebuild, just some bubble gum on the #7. we need to pull it apart to look at it. If I got a TH400 that goes behind it, how hard would it be to adapt that tranny to a 4WD output?

I'm not sure about the 390, but the 429 kicks ass. I had one in a 64 Sedan Deville, and the advertized 340 HP was for real. with posi i could burn 255-60 15's, no problem. Tough as hell, too. IF the 390 is anything like it, you'll definately be happy. Only thing to watch out for is exhaust manafolds, they crack really easily, and even with NI-rod are a pain in the ass to fix.

The 390 is externally identical to the 429, only difference is bore and stroke. advertised HP is ~320. I'm really thinking good thoughts about this swap.
