I currently have a 3RZFE in my tacoma and i like its both powerful and economical for its size, and as ive been gutting out my 85 22R, I was thinking, why not do a 2.7 Swap? There was a post about the 3.4 5RZFE as a swap canditate that gave tons of insight, has anyone considered the 2.7 Liter? at 150HP and 170 lbs torque, the availability of both a turbocharger and a supercharger (yes a supercharger) and a slew of other aftermarket goodies, I see the 2.7 as a reliable, economical engine with plenty of swap potential. Its also rather inexpensive compared to the 3.4L swap. I found complete engines with harness and computer starting at around $750

(snowchucker, If i remember correctly you were starting one of these swaps, have any info on it?)

An excellent swap idea... keeps the nose light, less broken front axle parts.

Turbo and super for the 2.7L!?! Where? Please let me know. All I have found so far for the 2.7 is the k&n intake and one company that makes a header. Thanx.

Yup. still have the motor/ auto tranny/ computer sitting on the garage floor covered w/ a tarp. You can run the new tacoma adapter to run a drivers side diff, or the old adapter to run a passanger side diff. W/ the supercharger etc.. you can smoke a few V6 rigs out there.
The motor itslef may bolt up to the older trannies (similar to the 3.4 bellhousing discussion). But i dont think anyone has done the swap yet.

I have plans for building up a buggy w/ the 2.7, just need to finish my other project first.

I don't have my '97 T100 FSM handy, but IIRC, its a "W" series 5spd tranny that came w/ the 2.7L... W58 maybe?

HERE:
The 2.7L supercharger is made by a company called Alpine Developments. Here is a link to some info on the charger, scroll down on the right hand side until you see the "Induction-Exhaust" look under 4cyl section and there is all kinds of info on the Alpine 2.7L supercharger.

I would definatly try and use my existing tranny/transfercase, so if it bolts right up this swap would be physically easy. the elictrical would be another story. Im seriously considering this and it wold be great if anyone would chime in with specs. im willing to be a guinea pig for this swap. thanks

The Taco 4 speed tranny is a W59. Since it's a "W" series motor I suspect it will bolt up to the 3RZFE bell housing. Haven't heard of anybody trying it yet, though. Marlin might have a clue.

i really want to use my manual from my 85, and keep the gear driven transfer case as well as the ability to use all the marlin goodies

ok after some browsing of the advance adapters site, ive decided that i have a g52 or g54 5 spd tranny with a 21 spline gear driven transfer case. my question is now, do you think g series 5 spd will bolt up to the 2.7 bellhousing? id be a very happy person if this is the case, which it most likely isnt, but its worth a shot.

The G52 and W56 have the same bolt pattern to the bell housing. The R151F has the same bolt pattern to the bell housing as the R150. The R150 is used on the V6. The G52 and W56 use the 21 spline gear driven transfer case while the R151F has the 23 spline rear driven tranfer case. The automatic transmission transfercases are all chain drive units.

ok so lets summarize:

for this swap to work correctly i need a 23 spline 5 Speed Tranny. Is my G52 23 spline?

If this is the case, it will bolt driectly to the 2.7's bellhousing (according to the last post, and i will be able to use my current gear driven 21 spline tranfercase. basically this would be a direct drop in depending on the trans. shaft spline count.

I don't think we know which transmision will work correctly. But to answer your question- No - the G52 is a 21 spline.

The G52 came behind the 22R and the W56 came behind the 22RE. The R151F Came behind the 22RET and the R150 Came behind the V6. Again, it is not known if any of these transmissions will bolt behind the 3RZFE. If one of these will bolt up the the 2.7 bell housing it will be a sweet swap.

What we need to find out is what transmissions will bolt to the 2.7 bell housing? <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0"> I want to keep this thread alive. So if anyone has the answer, please step forward.

This question has been asked so often, I'd just like to see it answered and resolved. Will the W56/G52 trannies bolt to the W59 bellhousing?!

so if anyone wants to play w/ the swap, a 4cyl tacoma motor/ auto tranny/ tcase is laying on my garage floor (30 miles south of placerville). I dont have any old trannies laying around to see what fits/ doesnt.
If anyone in the sac area wants to donate/ lend a tranny (junk is ok), i can help find out.

I know ..."newbie scum of the earth you don't belong here". I have taken a lot of abuse for what I drive so I suppose that I can take a lot of flaming from you guys too. I have researched about 500 threads of Toyota stuff and there isn't much on the 3RZfe.

I aquired a 3RZfe, computer, wiring harness, body harness, clutch assembly. bell housing and misc. parts. I have placed the 3RZ bell housing next to a G52 removable bell housing and they look exactly the same. The only difference is that the clutch lever is on the opposit side. I do have a picture but I aparently can't post pics being a "newbie".

I am wondering if anyone has made any further progrees with this swap?

This is going in a 1991 Daihatsu Rocky with Toyota solid axles. Toyota owns 51% of Daihatsu so don't laugh too hard.
