I have two fronts, but when I rotated the soon to be rear 3rd it seems that it rotates in the wrong direction, I guess my question is, are the front and rear drop outs different? or are they the same? and can I use a front drop out in the rear without problems? Seems that the ring and pinion are not on the power side, rather on the coast side, so I dont think the gears would hold up going in reverse, hope I clarified this enough, thanks for the help.

they are same

remember to make sure your portal gears are rotating right way.

if you install front in to rear you have to change left box to right and right to left.

Did you go wheeling at Trees Ranch in Texas this past Labor Day weekend? There was a guy there who had purchased this cool tube buggy that had Mogs ''404s'' under it. He said his 404s had straight cut gears in the boxes, he had rebuilt the axle and from kingpin to kingpin. Said he put a thousand dollars on it.

I myself having five ''404s'' mogs axles all of which are helical wanted to take the
bet , but was trying not to be a total dickhead. Who knows could he have some super old set of 404's?

Anyway if your the same guy, I won't hold you to it but TAKE SOME PIC'S.
