A friend pulled the 3spd out of his FJ55 and installed a 4spd. He mated it to his 3spd tcase but the linkage isn't quite right for the shifter. Does the 4 spd tcase linkage work any better for this setup? That is what he was thinking of using but he dosn't have the 4spd tcase linkage. Anyone have a spare linkage for sale? (if it will work for him). Also the 4spd he got was missing the washer and nut that go on the tranny output shaft anyone have those or know a cheap source?

Ken..... I don't know it the three-speed nut and washer is different or not, but I am in the middle of an SM420 conversion on my 73 fj40, and if I dont need these, I'm willing to figure out somethin with ya~~~~~~> I'm about 40 miles south of you in Mountain Home. I've been trying to get to the meetings, but my job has got me tied up.... drop me a line sometime man

I believe the plunger for the 2wd/4wd on the three speed/very early 4spd(73/74) is longer than the regular 4 spd t-case plunger from mid 74 onwards... The plunger is part of the t-case, runs parallel to the front output and has the notch machined out of it for the shifter arm of the 2wd/4wd part. Tried this once myself and had problems with the shifter being angled too far back in hole and it cut the boot... I think I solved it by swapping out the plunger(for the later short style) and installing the late style 4spd shifter linkage... too include the high low arm and lever(inside t-case). It's a lot of work, but nets a working shift linkage. Sure there are cheaper ways to get it to work, and I'd be interested...
