Today i saw a 83 2wd deisel yota truck for sale. I didn't know they made them? Since deisels don't need to be smogged could you put in any motor you wanted?? even a regular gas motor? that would be sweet to not worry about CA smog laws!! anyone have a 4wd deisel for sale??

Then wouldn't that defeat the purpose of NOT getting smogged tested, switching in a GAS motor, I think the tech would recognize the engine difference

Why would you want to get rid of the diesel???

Beware, I spoke with a Tech at the Ref station and he said there is a very high possibility they may start smogging older diesels in the next 3-5 years. He didn't say how far back they would go but he said he was certain it would happen. Talk about pissing of some people!!!

If you know of a diesel toy for sale but don't want the engine let me know. I will trade a gas motor and/or EFI for the diesel motor.

By the way...I called the Ref to see if I could legally get my rig switched over to diesel. Basicly same rules as switching to different gas engines in california. Has to be same year or newer with all smog equipment. Has to be US engine also.

On the diesel 2L motors only smog parts are the EGR, PCV and an anti smoke device built into the injection pump.

After mine is swithced over to diesel no more smog unless the laws change. Infact the smog ref told me to make sure I don't toss any of my diesel smog parts!!

You can switch to whatever you want, just don't let a ref see it.

Its my understanding that if you have anything registered as a diesel and a cop pulls you over and notices that you have a gas motor in it that you are big time fucked. Atleast in california. Better to get a 73 do a body swap and a 4wd conversion. ;-) then have at it when it comes to motor. But even then you have to jump through a bunch of hoops at the DMV with the whole body swap thing. And it has to go to CHP to be vairfied. So best to do the body swap then get it all legit title and VIN wise then do the 4wd and motor swap. I have done a bunch of research on this stuff for my project. And yes a lot of cops will know the difference and more and more the cops are being trained on this stuff. You can thank the Fast and the Furious for that. Also now that they have the portable smog setups where they can dyno you junk on the spot and have the smog guys right there it will be hard to explain that setup unless you pull the whole I bought it that way and didn't know it was illegal.
