i run 37s' SSR's and 5.29's and just put in a new tranny becuase i grenaded 5th and 3rd gear in the old one <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> hehehe.........lots of $$$ so i dont wanna ruin this one.........is it okay to run in 5th as long as i'm above 3000 rpm? thats about 70-75 mph for me.......i can push it to 85, but i kinda loose steering at that speed with 8" lift and 37's...so, should i just stay OUT of 5th in general? i jsut dont wanna melt this one down......thanks

I think you answered your own question here.

You won't roast your OD as long as you don't lug it out for long periods of time.

If you are on a downhill, use it. If you are about to turn uphill, shift out of it. It can handle low RPM abuse way better than an automatic OD.

I had the same setup on my 22r 5 speed and I used 5th whenever I could, I just tried to keep from lugging it out for long periods.

Stick some Lucas in the tranny to keep it good and lubricated

I did 3 lots of 5-speeds in a summer(always fifth gear at about 70 ) with a V8 one end and 35" boggers the other.

early 84-86ish one's seem to suck.

Got a auto now <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Wow, 85 with 37" tires. What gives, donwhill with the wind to your back. I keep mine in 4th with my 37" Boggers. I don't use the freeway that often but if it starts to rev too high through it in 5th. Just don't bog it donw at a hill, just down shift.

nope, no wind <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> fresh motor, cam, header, 2.25 short exhaust system, 40 series flowmaster.....tuned up really good.....i cruise at 75, but on a flat i'll top out at 85, wiht 35's i could wind it up to 95-100.........revved like mad tho <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
