It has mystery headers that are more rust than metal.

Yeah, that is what is done, as the crank and pistons are the only difference.

I don't understand how that is going to get you around the torque converter problem.

Only certain 429's require the odd ball converter.

What did you end up with for a cam? I wanted a bigger am in the tank, it had no lack of low end, and I was willing to give some up.

The tank could run, it stored outside, so the shocks and expensive parts are removed to prevent theft. I just need to plan a trip.

I really like finned aluminum. I get them when I can. Stay away from stamped steel chrome. They are cheap junk. I'd rather run stockers.

That Russell filter should be fine. Make sure to install it the right direction. (It works both ways, holds a lot more crap when the screw in part is towards the carb.)

Iirc I have a 750 vacuum secondary on my 429. Given my experience with aftermarket efi, I would not hesitate to do it again. We will see when the truck gets here.
