Thanks pennsylvaniaboy! glad you like it, bummer that the photobucket pictures probably aren't working anymore.
---

After some friends sent me a link to JR's frame repair on this site, i basically did something very similar to fix my upper link cage section.

For the sleeve I ended up machining a piece of tubing to get a nice .025 under outer diameter so it would slide smoothly and then bored out about 1-3/4" length of my 1/4" wall replacement tube. Then I discovered that the tube stubs that were left on the frame didn't have a smooth inner profile because of some weld burn-through on the original cage build. Weeeeell for the tube sleeve idea to work i needed them to be able to slide 4-5" deep into the stubs, which meant I needed to clean up the insides. To do that i had to machine myself a custom doohicky thingy to extendo my reach-o.
A couple notches with a file into the sleeves, and a little push with a chisel through the rosette window and bingo bango we've got ourselves a repair.

New radius arms in progress.
In the pictures below there's still more work to be done, i've got angled pieces going aft on the arms & side plates to still be added.
2" x 1/4" wall DOM tube mains, 1/4" plate everywhere else.

Old and busted:

is the new arm the same piece of tube all the way through? as looks like you stopped the tube at the first flat plate then added another after it? think it would be stronger if you put a hole in the plate and ran the tube all the way. either way new design looks better then the old arms :smokin:

damn. that would've been a great idea... oh well. whenever I need a rev3 perhaps.
My thinking was that the high loads from the bump stop would transfer straight through the plate into the boxed structure and less onto the tube. But yeah, this will be way better than rev1 and those lasted ~5 years.

Thanks dude.

After getting a bunch of grief from my buddies, I added another 1/4" doubler to the tops & bottom. These are painted & installed now, time to finish buttoning up the truck, baja in 2 weeks.

So our annual Memorial day trip to Mexico was a huge success. This one was epic & we made some stories that will stick for quite a long time.
We ended up with 4 trucks & 1 dirt bike & 11 homies partying on the east coast of Baja near San Felipe.

Friday was a big day where we crossed into tecate and hit the compadre trail south to Ojos ******. Incredible trail, mega fun, neat pine tree scenery, would do again.

Ojos ****** for lunch & then onto the race course for a bit of a beating. Took that all the way through to Valle de Trinidad & then onwards to the sand & lakebed.

In this section before San Felipe I got into some big old woops and tried to maintain speed to stay on top...weeeeeeeeeeell i fucked up, was going too fast & ended up trying to use my front bumper as a road grader. I plowed super hard into the face of a giant set of a bumps. The rear end bucked up and my bumper went for a nose-dive into the face of another bump, see the pic near my buddy. Ended up denting a wheel in that process and it seized up on the caliper (15" rim life) causing me to go into a left turn. I thought we were going over & I just broke my whole truck.
Turns out...nope, just bent a wheel & my whole bumper & skid plate. The bumper & skid saved my whole front end from ultra carnage. thank jebus.

From there we all took about 10 years off our lives from dust inhalation on the lakebed. I discovered that my trans cooler "upgrade" was not an upgrade as I still have trans overheating issues that need figuring out. Eventually made it into San Felipe for dinner & supplies then onto our bitchin' Air BnB ~9km south of town for some margs and a brown-out. This is the way to do Baja, fellas. It was awesome having our own space with a roof top deck & secluded beach.

Day 2:
We had discovered a crack in my rear trailing arm, so after recovering from a hangover a little bit, I drove up north a bit to a mechanic that I knew from october at Pete's Camp. Had him weld a doubler over the crack, $20 in 20 minutes. Well, we're at this awesome beach, may as well hang here and hit the snooze button on the rest of the hangover. Some cocos, some pinas, some beach and we eventually moved on to the San Felipe Brewing company to keep the fun going. Lazy day of vacation, exactly what the doc ordered.

Day 3, some exploring
After some more recovery, we headed south & checked out Valle de los Gigantes.
Theoretically this is the only region in the world where this specific giant cactus grows. Not sure I would go back for the $10 but it was neat to see once.

Then we ended up heading more south and our hungry stomachs had us stumbling upon this ultra bitchin' little beach camp called Percebu so we decided to get some kickass tacos & shrimp quesedillas there and hang out in their little bay for a while. No Ragrets.

Last item on the day was heading further south to check out Puertecitos. Disappointing.
We had heard about some hot springs & a cliff jumping spot that we wanted to see. We were greeted by a lady who informed us that they close the gate at 6 pm and charge ~220 pesos per night, per car for camping on their beach. We arrived at 5:15 and already had a place to sleep & no camping gear and you have to go through their community to get to the spots we wanted to see. Back to the house it was, but not before hitting some super fun road-side whoops. A couple of the other guys should have videos out, hopefully they'll show them off.

Remaining pics:

All in all, great trip & time for me to add one more peso to my cage.

man you always get me all jelly with these awesome pics and stories from your trips. new arms looks super beefy after adding the extra plating :smokin: so got new plans for bumper and skid after lawn darting or just fix it and keep going?
So I've got to do a serious overhaul now. There's enough issues up front that it's time to do a deep dive. Here's the list of issues:

- Oil constantly pumps out of orifices for some damn reason. Bleeds from the dipstick & PCV valve. It's gotta be my PCV system but I have yet to be able to figure it out.
- Engine cooling is insufficient, I start overheating at idle very quickly.
- Trans cooling is insufficient
- Front bumper & skid are nuked.
- Motor noise is lame, needs to sound better
- Power steering is weak & screechy

I have had blowby issues that on the last baja trip manifested themselves into a serious-enough nature that it was time to do something about it. To be fair, I didn't know it was blowby at the time...I thought I had PCV troubles.

Anyway, I finally got the motor pulled & torn apart to see what was going on and sure enough, evidence of the rings being toasted (& the motor running rich). Here's a few photos of the cylinders & heads below.
Next step is to sell my motorcycle & then start on the rebuild & upgrades. I'm thinking about taking the whole short block to a engine builder to have them tear it apart and do a more thorough inspection, hot tank, & then hopefully just re-hone & new rings.
In 2014 I had the whole long-block rebuilt and it's already been bored .030 over so fingers crossed I don't have to go bigger.

so whats the plan for the motor? just freshen it up or try and make some more power while doing the rebuild?
The path of least resistance (er... cost) dictates that I just fix the problem and put it back together. It's starting to seem like I can get away with just a re-hone & new rings while reusing the existing cam, crank, rods, pistons, and all the associated bearings. I'll know for sure once I get a chance to drop it off at the shop.

I keep getting lured towards aluminum high-flow heads but the $2500-$3k price tag scares me away every time.

So long as I'm faster than my buddy & his ranger, i'm still content.

i want a set of aluminum heads for my bbf but have a hard time with the price as well. always have to be the fastest one in the group, even if everyone i wheel with has been stepping it up so only a matter of time till i have to
