The 700R4 in my landcruiser has been leaking fluid for awhile now, and i'm 99.9% sure its leaking where the rod that the shifter cable attaches to goes into the transmission housing. What do I need to do to fix this leak? It doesn't leak a whole lot, just enough to be annoying. Any advice?

Thanks,
Travis

There's a little bitty seal in there you can replace. Call a local tranny shop and they should be able to give you some tips for changing it. You may have to drop the pan so you can have access to the back side of it.

Anybody know if its the same procedure as for a turbo 350? I've got a book for that b/c my dad had one in his camaro, but no book for my 700R4. The book describes the procedure for the 350 pretty well, so I'm hoping its the same stuff.

Theres a tool you can get the slides over the shift shaft and screws into the seal surface. Then it has a bolt in it the pulls the seal out. Then another part to the tool that's a tube and slides over the shaft to install the new seal flush. It takes all of five minutes to do the whole job. I got mine from one of the tool trucks but you may be able to rent it from autozone.
