Had my kickdown band come off on a wheeling run friday. Dropped the pan and found that the adjuster end triangle thing and the bar had fallen into the pan. I am guessing that the adjuster was too loose. I dropped the valve body and felt the other side of the kickdown band and it felt like it there were two friction pad seperated by about 1/8 inch of space. I assume that this means that it is a dual wide band? I have tried to find out what the tollerance is for this band's thickness. Can somebody point me in the right direction for finding this out I'd like to avoid dropping the tranny compleatly out as I am replacing it with a c6 in a few months anyway.

I guess its a newb type question but the BB doesn't have much more than "are you sure you are checking your fluid right" archives. And I guess i'm retarded but I can't find any specific values for the thickness.

I had a 727 where the rear band broke in half and you might be in that boat.
C6 putting in a ford mill? The band is like 2" wide

I recommend a simple search on Ebay for "727 band"

There are 2 of them.
Then thin forward band is the 2nd/kickdown and the rear shown above is the low/rev band. It was obviously repaired before and the weld was not as strong as the original.

The front band is a thin snap band although they did make a thick cast one early on...just not in a scout. The adjustment is on the outside just above the shift linkage so no excuse for not doing it. There are several designs but they need a place for the fluid to excape when applied. That's why it feels like 2 bands. There is a slot in the middle of the band.

The pan must be dropped to adjust the low/rev band.

as long as the front still has material on it, it will be fine for what you are doing.

Only the front pump needs to be removed to replace it. If the tranny is dropped then just do it.

I have heard of guys fishing a new one in with out tearing it down but have never tried it.

The kevlar bands are only $14 on Ebay.

The front band is included in all complete rebuild kits.
A full kit is $49 on ebay with ALTO clutches.(just a brand)

I adjust my bands to 2 turns out.

well, shit. I tried to adjust the rear band and the band appears to be worn beond reuse. When I get NEAR 72"Lbs the threads are already to far to get a lock nut on. I am on the way to town to get a longer bolt and see if I can milk a few more miles out of this poor thing. Any reason this wont work?
