I am pretty sure that when I did my last 8.8 that I used the flange from a explore driveshaft and 'found' a u joint, that mated up to a stock yj driveshaft. I am in the middle of doing another 8.8 and was wondering what ujoint I am looking for. I am going to ask at the parts store tommorow, but was hoping that someone already has a application that will work.

It depends on what flange you got. Ford has 2 different ones. either a 1310 joint, or a 1330 joint. Your yj probably has the 1310, so you need to make sure that the explorer flange is the one for the 1310.

The majority of the Ford adapters I have seen have been 1330... Most YJs are 1310 (except for '94 & '95), so you would more than likely need a 1310/1330 conversion ujoint. Or you could spend $25-30 for the correct flange adapter and be able to save a lot of $$ when it comes to buying ujoints, b/c the standard joints are much cheaper than a conversion joint. If you plan on carrying spare ujoints, or will have the 8.8 long enough to necessitate changing out joints, that is the way I would go. I know NAPA sells the flange adapters, as well as Tom Woods... MORE does too but they rip you a new asshole with the price...

Thanks, that worked great. I was able to look over a few different explorer driveshafts, to find the right one. For reference, it seems that the older driveshafts used the smaller ujoints. ie 96-98
