My custom 1/4" thick 9" housing has the same clearance as my toyota 8" housing - the stock 60 housing is 1 3/8" bigger, even shaved it's still significantly larger and a fair amount heavier - I went the hybrid route, 9" w/60 knuckles and outers, it's awesome. We have done the Toy 8" w/44 and w/60 ends they're great just not as strong as a 9". Hope this helps.

I don't know what the terrain is like in california but I do know how strong the 60's are.
the easiest trick to gaining clearance while running 60's under a small truck is to just bust through rocks, so just don't worry about clearance all that much and use copious amounts of momentum

use that nodular iron

well that kind of depends on what size tires you have

Do you have 35's?

all ya need to do, is measue from the center of a d60 case and from the center of a toy and do some math. My friend has a 60, but its front. He has a 14 in the rear. Or else i would measure that.

LOL! You mean you wanted the ground clearance?

Dooooooooooh, Dude, I measured the Pumpkin, it's 9.75" top to Bottom. I thought you were comparing Pumkin diameters to get the #, like if the 60 is 12", then the difference is 2.25", so if ya had a 35" on the old toy dif, you'd want a 37 or 38 to make up the clearance.

Jackstands don't count as tires anyway (My rig, not yours)

Wait till you guys see and HEAR Mo Power! It's Baaaaaaaaad Asssssed!

I do not have the exact measurement, but I have been told by 2 shops (Wardens and Mudrak) that a D60 has about 1.5" +/- less ground clearance than a toy axle. The easiest way to make up for the difference is moving up from 35's to 38's.

Morpheus,
Because now yer lettin the axle tube diameter screw up thw measurement!!!! But I like the level. Now measure the outer diameter of the axle tube, divide that by two, and add the measurement you just did with the level!
