Working on a 7M GTE swap in an 85. I've got a W56 transmission with a bell housing adapter that's currently behind a 5MGE.

I know the bellhousing pattern is the same, but behind the 7MGTE I've got a Drift Motion lightweight flywheel. Now, I'm hearing that I would have to use a flywheel from a 7MGE of 5MGE, not a GTE flywheel.

Does anyone know if this is accurate or will the Drift Motion flywheel work?

GTE flywheel will take the turbo pull style clutch that a W bell won't really have provision for. You could redrill the pressure plate bolt pattern on the fly to suit a GE push style clutch but I'm not sure if the thicknesses are the same in terms of the fork having the correct range of movement. A concentric slave would sort that out if needed.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a W56 behind a 7MGTE at all. Use a long input R150F with 7MGTE bell/fly/clutch and it will all go together like lego.

Post up some pics. I've got a warmed over 7MGE in an 85 dual cab.
